I'm seriously not sure what I think about this. At first I was in disbelief thinking 'wow, she must be really fertile'. Then to read that it was through assisted conception. Maybe i'm wrong in thinking that a Dr would help a woman get pg again so soon after having quads, AND to still go ahead with an IUI when there was a chance of high order mulitples. By the sounds of it, she would have been undergoing u/s's to see what her ovaries were doing, then why would the Dr go ahead?!?
Maybe I've got my head in the sand in thinking this is wrong. What do you all think?
I think that sounds like WAAAAAAAAAAY too many kids to me! Especially so close together. I can't imagine anyone in good conscience doing that, mother or doctor.

I'm with you mandi-lou.I dont know why the doctors helped her to conceive again so close to just having quads!! I know its is peoples right to have babies and I would hate for someone to tell me I couldnt have another baby etc, but she just had 4!I think the doctors have a responsibility here and they haven't met it. In that article, it said alot of places have policy's that if there are more than 3 eggs, then they do not go ahead with it! I wonder why this place did? Definately something this place needs to look into I think.
I hope I dont sound horrible, or jealous. One minute I think its wrong, then next I just don't know. My SIL is thinking thats its wrong, it shouldnt happen either..
I just pray that they are given the resources, support and patience to deal with 8 babies under 2yr and the bigger sister, who will only be about 3 0r so herself when the next set come along..!! Crikey..thats a scarey thought. Wish them all the best anyway!

Deb that is the way i'm feeling too. As someone who went through the Queensland Fertility Group to get pg with my son, I just can't imagine what the Dr was thinking by going ahead with the IUI. My only thought was that perhaps it was only 2 eggs that have split into 2 each. I know my Dr did my IUI and I had 2 eggs that looked to be a good size.
Maybe I just think they are crazy for wanting more kids so soon after the first lot of quads. The scary thing is, if you read, they were born 13wks early. So techniquely they are only 1mth old and she is already pg with the next lot.
But all the best to them, I do hope that she keeps healthy and well and also has alot of help, not only while she is pg, but afterwards too. I'm not to say when people have kids (we haven't prevented since DS was born), I just hate to think what this kind of strain would do to her body.
My reaction was the same as you - my goodness how is she going to cope! Then i read she is over the moon and i started to re-think.
I really believe that her doc should not have allowed her to go ahead with the insem when there were obviously at least 4 mature eggs. The risk to the babies and her (so soon after a higher order multiple birth) is huge - so i will be watching tonight to see what she says.
Really - even when you struggle to have a family do any of us want 9 under 3???

I had 4 good follies when I had my IUI with Jamie. I was worried to death about higher order multiples. I really wanted twins but kept worrying about them all taking (mostly for the increased risks).
My issue with it, is the fact they're going to be taking money for it. If that's what you want, good for you, but do it by yourself. They choose to do that, therefore they can clearly afford to fund themselves.

My cousin thinks that she and the babies will be at risk. There's a really high chance that she'll loose one or more.
I wonder if she asked for it. I mean i'm sure i've heard they try to reduce the risk of having quads these days. She said she wanted a big family and hey if you really want something the doctor wont say no. I think it's a little early to be having another mutiple pregnancy.
I don't think i could cope with four babies though. I would be scared enough having twins let alone quads.
I think we should wait and see what's happens first.
Did you hear how much people donate and how much the government would give them ....
I would be interested lol
Uhhhhhhhhhhh...this makes my tummy hurt. I bet her stretch marks have stretch marks.
Pregnancy takes so much out of a person...I worry when I hear someone is pg shortly after having a singleton! I'm amazed this woman's got any teeth or hair with the stress her body must be under. Hope all goes well for her.
I agree Amy! It really took me a full three years to really feel my full strength come back after having DD and she was only one!! I am really quite horrified that the doctor would allow that to happen. Having nine kids is one thing, but having two seriously high risk pregnancies so close together is extremely risky for the health of the whole family. I pray that the mother and babies all make it through the next few years okay. I had my physio say to me when I was pregnant that the number one thing I needed to do was take care of and respect myself, because if I am not healthy and happy, then the family is going to suffer as a result (and very good advice I feel). This saddens me that a woman would have so little respect for her own health by putting so much pressure on her body.
