Default a1c levels...

okay im just curious.. my a1c level has been 6.4 % and based on what ive seen thats really good and I've not taken my met for bout 3 months .. and when I was diagnosed my a1c was 6.4 as well soo theres been no change but from what ive seen that is considered normal.. whats going on? am i or am i not diabetic??? im soo confused bout this.. my bs stays pretty normal once in a while it goes up a bit higher than normal but very seldom.. soo what do u girls think? what are your a1c levels?

An a1c of 6.4 translates to an average blood sugar of 130. While that may be considered good for diabetics and acceptable under the ADA guidelines, it's still not low enough IMO. Under 6 is considered "non-diabetic" range, and I'd rather keep my blood sugars in that area rather than in diabetic range. People without diabetes generally have blood sugars that average in the 80's.

My A1c's over the past couple of years have ranged from 4.8-5.2.

Many experts believe that post-meal readings are more important than a1c or fasting readings. You could be having spikes after eating, and that can only be determined by checking your blood sugar with a home monitor. Research has shown that the blood sugar level at which permanent damage can occur is 140. You may be interested in reading the articles at this link:

thanks soo much for the info... my fasting blood glucose is usually 70s ... after eating ive been ranging between 88 and 112 over the past couple months.. soo im just confused I guess... bout everything... I dont eat a lot of carbs or sugars or anything ... i guess i should add my last a1c was in september though ... shrugs
