Hello! I'm new to the message boards, but have visited the site a couple of times over the past year. I was diagnosed in May of 2003 with PCOS. I'm overweight, have cysts, ovarian pain, acne, a lot of facial and neck hair, etc. But, the one thing that no one can explain to me is the pain I have in my upper right abdomen. Many times it occurs when I have the ovarian pain as well and sometimes not. I've had ultrasound on my gallbladder, a hida-scan, ct scan of the entire abdomen, colonoscopy and endoscopy and no can find the source of my pain. The GYN doesn't think this is related to the PCOS, but the GI doctor said he would question that. He said everything else had been ruled out and maybe the pain in my upper abdomen was related to the PCOS. Has anyone else experienced other abdominal pain? I've looked around for a bit on the board and haven't seen anything like this.
Thanks!!

I seem to have some pain (more discomfort really) in my upper right abdomen too. I have had it off and on for years. My doctor said that my liver enzymes were elevated (years ago) and that caused that. He said that if they weren't normal next round of blood work, we'd do a liver biopsy...........well, they were fine the next time around. It seems to happen particularly when I'm dieting which leads me to believe that it's gallbladder related or fatty liver related ( while those two things are filtering out extra fat).
It sounds like you have had a bunch of tests however to rule things out.
I'm sorry I can't be of much help but I just thought I would let you know that you are not alone with the pain/discomfort.

I recently read an article in Discovery magazine where a young woman had undiagnosed abdominal pain. It ended up being hypothyroidism. The tests for it are straight forward, and if you happen to have that disorder, it really needs to be treated. Check with your endocrinologist.

Thank you for your suggestions everyone. I'm going to research some info. on both endo and hypothyroidism and speak with my doctor again. I appreciate you all taking the time to respond to my post.

I'm in the same boat. My right side has been hurting on and off for the past year and a half. I have had an ultrascan, hyda-scan, ct scan and a colonoscopy and they have found nothing. My gastroenterologist and primary physician both say I probably need a lapraoscopy (sp?). I am seeing my gyn on May 11 and she will be the one to do this. The other doctors seem to think it might be endometriosis.
My GI doctor recommened I have a lapraoscopy as well. I wasn't sure what for, but he said he would include it in his notes that he is sending back to my primary care doctor. I don't see the gyn again until May. I've been worried about that visit because I'm not sure if she will like that I'm not following her care plan. I've gone off the pill and the spironolactone. I've been on just vitamins and herbs now for the past couple of months and have seen a great improvement in my overall health and esp. my ovarian pain.
But, this other remains a mystery at the moment. I would be more at peace with having a lapraocopy if they had a pretty good idea of what was wrong and what they are looking for. Its a bit scary to think they could do it and find nothing. I'm tired of having tests.
