So we got my husbands semen analysis results back today and he has less than 1% morphology.
What are our options? Just IVF? I am so disappointed. I really am not looking forward to spending thousands of dollars just to get pregnant. There are so many other things I would rather spend that money on To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
I mentioned this on another thread but I've read that sometimes problems with semen can be caused by mild prostate infections. You may want to have him see a urologist. It can be cleared up with antibiotics!

Go to a Urologist. You will find that to be very helpful. My husband went to one. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
Which morphology was 1%. My doctor told my that dh's strict morphology was 2%, but the other was quite a bit higher. So...at first I was freaking out, but the second number calmed me down.
I don't know. I didn't realize there were different types. She just said it was abnormal at 1% and it should be at 14%. She is mailing me a copy of the results, so I will find out.
Everything I have read online says that they don't know the cause of low morphology and that there aren't any adequate treatments. What good would a urologist do? Did it help your husband Jen?

It sounds like they are using strict morphology (Kruger standard) based on the fact ath 14% is the high number. I am curious to know if everything else on the SA came back normal? If so, I wouldn't even worry about morphology. My DH's urologist/fertility specialist said he doesn't even look at morphology. The reason? If you watch 100 people walk into McDonalds and have to decide whether they are "normal looking" or not... totally subjective, right? You might want to have your DH see a urologist just to check for other issues such as a varicocele that cause problems with morphology. Any illness that can affect sperm numbers doesn't show up for about 74 days(about how long it takes to make a sperm) so today's results reflect what was going on about two and a half months ago. If nothing else was found and the morphology is the only thing that was abnormal, then I would ask your doctor about fertility for men ( it's a supplement from theralogix) You need a physicians code to order and it may be able to help with morphology.

my husbands semen analysis sucked all around. Count around 6 mil., 23% motility and < 0.5% strict morphology. We did one more IUI before going to the urologist and it worked, so there is hope. Good luck!!!

Thank you so much redsoxfan and jenNICUnp! You both made me feel a lot better. I have heard so many stories about women who have husbands with less than 2% morphology and they get pregnant naturally... so I am still holding out hope that we will get pregnant before I finish school and won't need to do IVF.
I agree with Redsoxdfan 100%. My husband has 2% morphology and we were devastated as well. We saw a fertility specialist (apparently one of the best in Canada) who said that as far as having any sperm problems, morphology is the best of the worst. He said that it is a very common thing and that often it doesn't even affect a male's fertility. When I asked him if he would do an IUI or IVF, he laughed and said that we wouldn't need it, and that he could have me pregnant in 6 weeks if that were the case, but that all we would likely need is the Clomid to get me ovulating. I was already going on my third round of Clomid when we saw him and my hopes weren't too high...Well, I conceived 2 weeks after that appointment!!
I would definitely ask your doctor if a urology referral is a good idea. In the mean time, put your hubby on a good men's vitamins, and don't give up hope! My Dh and I just found out totally unecpectedly that he also has poor morhpology and motility. His count was great, but not so much with the other stuff. He's a healthy 26 year old who never smokes, doesn't drink a lot, is never exposed to anything that could affect him negatively at work (ie. toxic chemicals), there is no family history of any male infertility... so we are completely shocked and devastated over the news. Our Dr, however, seems very confident that IUI will be successful for us... maybe because his count might help to make up for the lower normal shaped and well moving sperm? We are currently waiting to hear back about his second analysis - done using the strict criteria. We're hoping beyond hope it was just a fluke and things will be better this time, but if not, our dr. seemed very confident IUI is all we will need.... I sure hope he's right!!!
Well me and DF just got back his analysis yesterday and we were pretty shocked. He had decent morphology and motility, but his count was low and pH was high. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

We are in the process of changing doctors because the one that gave this test did not screen throughly enough, in my option anyway, and had a terrible attitude. I also feel that the facility had a lot to do with the poor quality of the sample. My DF said that he had a very difficult time giving the sample and the amount was not typical. Honestly I dont even know how he gave one, the place was pretty crappy. We are going to try to make an appointment on Monday with a more reputable doctor and lab. I really want a second analysis ordered from a urologist that specializes in male infertility not a general practitioner that thinks he knows what he is doing. But I would definitely try to have him give another sample and have a second analysis done before I panicked. Best of luck chica!!
Just wanted to let you know my DH was actually diagnosed with 'male factor infertility due to varicocele'. Basically he has varicose veins in his left scrotum and the heat really messes up the swimmers. Painful for him also, as he says it feels like somebody is twisting his teste. He had a low count with poor motility and morphology.
On a positive note, we conceived twice without IUI's or IVF.
Baby dust to you!
