Default ? about glucophage xr dosage??

Hi! I just started Glucophage xr--500 once a day... here is the question.. most of you up your dose within what time range?? my re didnt say anything about uping the dose??????????? i need to know if everyone increases or what? I was just diagnosed about 2 weeks ago. No real signs of pcos... just by ultrasound.. lab work was on the high/low end of normal. I have recently done my first ivf with icsi and it failed... i am hoping glucophage is the missing link.. but really need to know if i should ask to increase the dose????????? thanks in advance!

Default glucophage

Hi Haley!

I am also on glucophage XR 500mg/day. I looked online to find out what a normal dosage is, and what I found on the INCIID site was 2000mg/day. I told this to my doc and she insisted that to treat the PCOS, all that is needed is 500mg/day. I'm frustrated about this because I still have bad acne, hair growth and trouble losing weight. HOWEVER, I did feel an egg pop out the first month I was on it. I can't recall having that experience before!

Have you asked your doc about upping the dosage? S/he may not want you to without consulting first, especially as there are side effects.

Good luck!
Alina

I started taking glucophage XR on monday. I take 500mg/day for the first week, then go to 1000mg/day for 2nd week, then finally 1500mg/day. 1500mg/day will be my regular dosage unless doctor thinks I should take more.

Haley,
I might be concerned if your doctor is saying that 500mg is all you need. How does she know? I think that it is different for everyone, but from what most women on this site say, it isn't until 1500mg is reached before most of us see a difference in symptoms. Personally, for me, my only symptoms included a few extra pounds, no AF, and the "string of pearls" and I didn't see any changes until I got up to 2000mg of gluc.xr. I would definately research this as much as you can and if you don't see any changes with that dose after a while, I would broach the subject again with your doctor.
I hope you had a good holiday weekend! Good Luck!
