Default About to have first m/c and I'm scared!!

Morning ladies!

I'm so sorry for all your losses! I'm just now starting to understand, unfortunately, what it feels like. I'm about 6 weeks pregnant after IVF. After having very low beta levels for the last couple of weeks, I finally saw my doctor yesterday. He did not hear the heartbeat and said he didn't see much of anything, that it was definitely not growing as quickly as it should be. I'm supposed to go back again this Friday to see if anything has changed. If it hasn't (and none of us are very optimistic at this point), then he'll take me off all my medicine and I will more than likely miscarry. It's been an emotional roller coaster and I'm completely depressed. All of this of course, right before Christmas. Merry Christmas to us!!! =\

Anyways...I just had a few questions for you ladies who have been through this. First....does a miscarriage really hurt or does it just feel like a normal period? And secondly....how long do you think I'm going to have to wait before my doctor will let us try IVF again?? AND...I'm still a little confused about the HCG/beta stuff. Since my levels were so low...does that mean that this is more than likely to happen again, or is each pregnancy different? I'm so scared, sad and confused. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you all and again, I'm so sorry that you have to go through this!!

Thank you,
Tibby

Tibby- I just went through a miscarriage at 5-6 weeks. My beta was doubling like it was supposed to then I had a really sharp cramp and I went to the bathroom and saw bright red blood. I stop all meds b/c I knew what was happening. I did not get a bleed for another 1.5 weeks. The cramps for me were worse than with a period. Each pregnancy is different. I would think that you should be able to do another cycle within 3 months. You have to wait for you levels to drop completely. I am sorry that you are going through this.

I'm so sorry that you are dealing with this, especially near the holidays. My last m/c was on x-mas eve so I understand how hard this holiday may be. When I had both my m/c I was in alot of pain for a few hours, and luckily my doctor gave me vicodin which i'm sure helped. After that, It was much lighter for me than a period, though my first m/c didn't hurt at all. I think each preganancy is different. I waited 1 month before prepping for IVF again. Lost that pregnancy in August and we were pregnant again in October. You will be in my thoughts and prayers!

Sorry you are going through this I have had two miscarriages...I did not experience very much pain with either one..physically..but I was pretty emotionally devastated. I think the most pain I felt was in my lower back. I pray that you will come through stronger! Do not give up hope..(HUGS)

Tibby, I am so sorry for your loss. I have a dear friend that suffered a miscarriage after IVF. She was not very far along (I think right where you are). She said that it felt like a normal (but heavier) period. I think she experienced a few cramps, but nothing major. If you start to hurt, my nurses told me to take a double dose of aleve. I believe my friend would have been able to try IVF immediately (had she the financial means). Your doc will probably want you to wait for your normal menstrual cycle to return, and then if you are emotionally ready will let you try again.

As far as your beta levels, you are right. Every pregnancy is different. My beta's were tripling and we still lost our child through a missed miscarriage. This was after have extremely good beta's for weeks. If you beta's did not double appropriately, chances are there was just probably a complication at implantation. These are all things that your doctor should be able to answer for you. Ask him everything!!!

As for me, my miscarriage after the D&C I had today hasn't been too bad. I have had some cramping, but they are keeping me pretty heavily medicated. If you even think you are starting to cramp worse than aleve will help, call your doc and have him give you a precrip for loritab. It really helps.

Again, my heart goes out to you. This sucks, but we will make it through. If you need anything at all I'm here!

Tibby: I am so sorry for your loss. Your beta numbers being low do not guarantee this will happen again. Every pregnancy is different. With my miscarriage i had to have a D&C to clean me out so i didnt have cramping...i just bled like a normal period for about a week and 1/2. My sister had a m/c doing IVF and her RE had her try again right away and she got preg with my niece & nephew. I am praying you get your sticky BFP soon

For me the pain was very intense since I chose to take pills and I was 12 weeks along (baby 9 week size). The actual miscarriage part did not hurt, but the cramps afterwards killed me. At one point I was walking along in the store and I couldn't stand up straight. Codeine helped some to dull the pain. My cervix was so sore for like 2 months after that that I couldn't really have intercourse. I also bled for over 7 weeks.

Not trying to scare you I'm sure it won't be that bad for you because you arent as far along as I was. Every time is different.
