Default About how many hairs are u guys losing after showering?

hello ladies....I have been losing so much hair. I hate it!!! Just started met and hoping that it helps. Just wondering how much hair you ladies are losing after showering. when i comb out my hair very gently with a pick I loose about 80 strands. Pretty soon I'm gonna be bald. I have most all of the side effect from pcos but this one is definitely the worse. Also do you ladies wash your hair everyday? Thanks

Hey there! I too suffer from hair loss especially after washing my hair. I wash my hair every other day if it doesn't get too oily which is another problem I have. I lose alot of hair and can only wear my hair up so you can't see my scalp.

I loose a good hand full each shower I have naturally curly hair so combing it out naturally takes your dead hairs out but definitely had so much more hair loss since puberty. I am 16 and already looking bald on the scalp. It is a major concern of mine, I have not started anything at all for the hair loss besides Generic Rogaine. (Did not work) so I will soon be going to the doctor and asking him what to do. I wash my hair twice a day, BUT only with shampoo 3 times a week. The rest is conditioner! I have to do that for my curly hair, but it helps keep it very moisturized and healthy. Also, I try to use the very least products in my hair as for after the shower. Let me know if you have more questions, or just want someone to relate too.

Hi girls,
I feel your pain.. I have been loosing my hair for a couple of years now non stop now. I mostly notice my hair loss after showering. I would normally wash out about 40 in the shower and then while combing another 150 or so. It's so horrific i can barely control myself and very often i cant... In the morning when i wake up a light pull will give me a patch of 30 or so... I would say that the total is 300 a day on average.

I use to loose about 80 - 100 hairs a day before I found out that I had high testosterone levels. I started Spironolactone about 5 years ago and the hair loss stopped and regrowth as happened. I loose about 20 a day now.

I couldn't go without washing my hair each day, the oil is just unreal!!

Same exact problem here. I remember my curls being so long and full like an Afro, now I fight my hair with tricks to try and make it look like I have more.

I couldn't even begin to estimate how many I lose...I'd say a good 3 minutes are dedicated to collecting the hair that has come out in the shower, and then when I get out and brush my hair there is more, and even after that I have to find the ones that have gotten stuck to my body...I have thick, wavy hair, and I really am shocked that by looking at my hair you can't tell how easily my hair comes out...

I'm so glad I joined this board. I've been reading and this is my first post.

I am so there with you girls. For years I've been losing my hair and I tried to hide it by trying various styles (even styles that look hideous on me) - but now it's just getting worse. I try to tell myself not to get depressed over it, it's a vanity thing but I can not help but want to cry every time I look at myself in the mirror with my hair down.

I've been on Metformin now for about 8 months, it hasn't really helped much. I'm hoping for...something. I don't know what...but I just can't hide under a baseball cap ALL the time! It's a double edge sword because it's not healthy for my hair to be stuck under a cap all day too!

Sad as it is, I am glad to see that there's such a board to help us support each other.

Until I was diagnosed with pcos I thought my hair loss was normal. I have always had very thick hair but have always lost a lot in the shower. I noticed my hair was getting thinner on the crown I just thought this was because I was getting older (my mom's hair started thinning in the same spot in her late 30's early 40's) and I color and straighten my hair. I was put on met about a month ago and a lot of my symptoms have gotten much better. I am not loosing near as much hair in the shower or when I get out. What I am loosing I think is mostly breakage from all the straightening (I don't like my curly hair) My skin has cleared up. I have one nice zit on my forehead right now and usually this time of the month you can play connect the dots. the hair growth on my face is lighter, thinner and slower. I found out reciently that thick rough patches of skin can also be a symptom of pcos and I have noticed that my elbows and heels are getting softer. Some symptoms I saw a difference within the first week of taking met others it has taken a little longer. good luck to you.

i'm lucky enough to have been born with very very thick hair. when i was younger i had to get it thinned every 3 months. its also supper curly (grr poof ball) as i've gotten older though I've noticed i'm only having to have it thinned about once every 8 months now and I lose so much in the shower it looks like a small animal. then more when i brush or comb it. I'm hoping the met will slow this down. It has cleared up my acne and the hairs on my chin dont have to be plucked everyday now.

Hi everyone.

Honestly, the hair loss is the wooorst part of PCOS for me. It was so bad before I tried anything, I would barely leave the house. Spiro didn't work for me, and Metformin makes me horribly ill. I have been on Yaz for about 7 months, and it has definitely taken control of my hair loss. My hair will never grow back to normal, but I do see hair growth, and I probably only lose 25-50 (max) strands a day (if that...). Plus, I can go like 4 or 5 days without washing my hair. I tested it because before yaz, I could barely go ONE day without my hair becoming horribly greasy (which had NEVER happened before PCOS). I think that Yaz has maybe made me a little moody and tired, but keeping the hair on my head outweighs all the other symptoms... now if it could only be CHEAPER!
