i have been having some really bad pain due to some cysts that i have...(im sure im the only one too...lol).....but anyway the doc gave me Lortab....and it makes me so sick to my stomach and gives me the worst hot flashes....does it to this to anyone else and if it does what can be done to prevent it...also is there anything else out there that some of you might have taken that has worked for you.....any help would be great...im in pain but i fear my pain pills...christie
But what you are dealing with is not needed. Contact your doctor and tell them your having bad reaction to the pain pills and need to had something else set up.
I went through that with Celabrix. I was so sick on them.
I now take the good stuff(percet). So I don't have the side effects like the others. I can't take Vicoden either...Hives and itching.
Ask for something different...Don't suffer!

I worked in an Inpatient Pharmacy for five years and I have a little knowledge maybe I can share with you. The first thing that I want to ask is if you are eating when you take the Loratab? Sometimes even if you have a "snack" it will make you sick. You should eat a regular meal then take the medication. Right now I am on percocet due to a knee problem (having surgery on Feb. 27th) and it does help more with the pain. I do get the hot flashes but I'd rather have them than the pain if you know what I mean. I hope this helps you and I hope that you get to feeling better.

Be aware that certain drugs such vicoden and percocet work wonders for pain but are highly addictive and can actually make things worse for you. They actually have slow release type percocet called oxycontin that is great for long term pain but like the percocet and vicoden is highly addictive.
So if you do start taking such narcotics try switching between these and other drugs. Many people say that they can't get addicted to these little pain pills but they do. Withdrawal from large amonts of these narcotics is worse than hell.
So be very careful before you start taking these types of pills.
That is the scary part(addiction)
But when I am in so much pain I can hardly walk AND I have to work(Very physical job)...I prefere to take my chances with the addiction.
I don't take them daily. I try to save it for work days.(4 days a week) My worst fear right now is becoming allergic to them.
That will most likely happen before the addiction sets in too hard.
I am in limbo right now. I have been told to find a new job, but my area has the largest unemployment rate. So I have to try to go to school AND work. So it is so stressful right now.
I also suggest to everyone to be careful with the doses and to not take it daily. Of course I don't "do" as much as I would like, but I try.

i always fear addiction with these drugs but i am with patty on this because to live with the pain is unbearable....i have seen the poor life of addicts because i used to work with drug addicted juveniles and it breaks my heart to think of what all they have gone through...i am careful...will continue to be careful...but i only use them primarily at night or when i havent any classes....i never drive while i am on them and i only use them as needed...but thank you for the advice...
Patty...i usually just take the pill with crackers instead of a full meal...so next time i take one i will eat a real meal before hand...thank you for the advice and i will pray for you about your knee...i just visited a friend of mine who had both knees replaced yesterday and he has a long journey before him...let me know if there is anything that i can do tohelp you out and please keep us posted on your progress...thanks again...christie
I was in a really bad car accident almost 2 years ago. I am still battling with pain now as well as constantly seeing doctors to try and correct the damage done. At the time I was going to school to become a pilot and I lost my medical that is required for me to fly because I still don't have full movement of my left arm.
At the time of my accident I was put on percocet, hydrmorphcontin as well as oxycontin. These medications were not helping the pain so instead of the doctor switching medications he only kept prescribing me more and more.
I felt that there was no way that I could ever become addicted because I was taking these pills only for pain. Over the next couple of months I became a complete zombie and had no realization that I had become addicted. I didn't feel any different but I was finding it harder and harder to do my every day tasks even taking a shower required 2 perks to get me up and into the shower and another 2 to get dressed and go out.
I ended up going away for a weekend about 6 hours from where I lived. I woke up 2 days later gasping for breath and had no clue where I was. I had overdosed and at the time I couldn't even admit that I had overdosed I kept telling people I was fine. The next couple of days I don't remember they all blurred together. I finally found my way home where I decided that I had to stop taking my medication. Between vomitting, diarrhea, cold sweats shaking and wanting to die I finally realized that I was addicted and it was that easy to become that way.
I am glad that so many people here are able to take these narcotics with out problems and with out becoming addicted because it is a hell that no one should have to visit. People can watch addicts and feel for them but they have no idea how bad it really is infact alot of addicts start by taking percocet and vocodin thinking they can not become addicted.
The only thing that I found eventually caused the pain to go away was needles in my head, neck, back and shoulder 3 times a week.
I have decided to post this only so that for the few of those who do believe you are invincible to let you know that you are not. I hope that you don't have learn this the hard way as I had to.
Pattyannruss,
Withdrawal is worse than anything you could ever imagine especially when you know one little pill can cure all your symptoms. I was so sick that I couldn't move and ended up spending half a day lying in my own vomit. When you see people on tv going through withdrawal from heiroine and other drugs It is very simular to what you experience. It took me about 2 months to stop shaking in public. Even now I sometimes feel that one little percocet would make my pain go away and make cleaning the house alot easier but it is not worth it when I remember what I went through.
The needles that I spoke of is not acupuncture it is actually simular to the drug used for epidurals injected into nerves. Over a period of time it stays in your system longer and longer blocking out the pain.
I am currently ttc and not having these needles done. These can be just as dangerous as any pill if not more so. The doctor who was giving me my shots once hit the wrong nerve sending me to the hospital will stroke like symptoms. Pain sucks! I hope that you find an alternative method for your pain. Good Luck.
