Default About Plucking...

I remember a while back (maybe January) there was an email sent out with links to some PCOS promotional type stuff. One of the things was about not plucking. The material itself didn't say anything about why we shouldn't, and I didn't have a chance to come here to find out. Is plucking bad, and, if so, why?

Thanks,

I've never known anyone to discourage plucking...but I'm curious to hear what other say.

BTW, who sent out the email?

I don't think plucking in itself is bad, but I know when I was doing both electroylsis and laser hair removal (not at the same time though) both consultants told me not to pluck or wax, only to shave. The reason they gave me for this is that pulling the hair out in those manners makes the hair shaft curved which makes it harder for the procedures to work plus it often causes ingrown hairs. Don't know how true that is, but that's what I was told.

I don't get ingrown hairs from plucking. I get them sometimes from shaving my tummy though

I think the no plucking rule comes from permanent hair removal pros. If you pluck, it's harder for the procedures to work, as mentioned above.

"i use a 10x's magnified light up mirror so i make sure i get them all!" Me, too! I had a FIT when the bulb burned out! And when I had to travel for work and couldn't take it with me, I was convinced that I missed half of my beard. I can't wait for laser hair removal...

I went for electroloysis and I was also told to stop plucking; apparently it can make the hair more stubborn and actually can create more hairs. (or so I was told). Sometimes the hair follicle can sprout more than one hair. I would just shave it off or maybe try bleaching? until you can afford to get laser or electroloysis.

It hasn't caused more hairs for me. I know that when I'm ready for laser hair removal, I have to switch to shaving for six weeks. Don't know how I'll handle that, when plucking removes every trace....

My doctor told me not to pluck. He said that it stimulates the hair to grow. I still pluck though!!

I'm not sure who exactly sent the email, but I am pretty sure it was someone from this board.

I do get ingrown hairs, which are really annoying. They end up looking like pimples. I don't understand why plucking would be bad, if waxing is okay. Its the same process, just quicker.

Only reason I don' t pluck anymore is that it tends to leave a nasty red bumpy rash, and frequent ingrown hairs. For me shaving works better. The bumpy rash was about as noticeable as the hairs in my case.
