My Mood: Points: 1,839.44 Bank: 1.64 Total Points: 1,841.08 | I always say the same two things to people about to start met, because I learned them the hard way and I hope you won't have to.
1. I always take my met right in the middle of my food. My side effects (nausea/vomiting/diarrhea) pretty much went away after I started that.
2. I started at 500 mg/day and worked up gradually to 1500 mg/day. I think it gave my body a chance to get used to the met. I didn't have increased side effects when I increased the dose either.
Hope this helps, good luck
Jenny

Points: 172.39 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 172.39 | Hi Em,
I am starting met on Saturday and am also a bit nervous. The prescription was written at the end of November, but I just got it filled this week. I just wanted to make it through the holidays, etc. in the event that I have any side effects. I have not had a period on my own since August, which was right after I went off the pill. I also take Provera to get a period.
We are TTC, so I just tell myself if I have horrible side effects it will all be worth it when we hopefully have a baby!
Good luck to you when you start taking Met! |

Points: 1,468.70 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,468.70 | I'm the same Andrea, not had AF since July '05 when I stopped the pill! So I'm really hoping Met will regulate things for me, Haven't got a hope of conceiving if I don't even ovulate! Soooo frustrating!
Your right about the side affects tho, I can cope with them if it's going to help me have a baby - fingers crossed!
Well good luck to you, keep me posted on how things go - I've got an ultrasound scan on tuesday to confirm the doc's diagnosis, so I'm hoping I'll get the met next week sometime.

My Mood: Points: 5,371.88 Bank: 39.05 Total Points: 5,410.93 | I remember starting met like it was yesterday (started may "05") After I got over the upset stomach and making the bathroom my new hang out place it has been great. I used to wake up every morning before taking met feeling yucky or after I ate something with alot of sugar I felt worse, Now I feel "right" and I feel good knowing that I found a doctor that actually knew what he was doing, and that in taking the met I wasn't going to get worse of fatter. The best advice I can give you girls who are just starting is to go out and buy some imodium AD only take a spoonful and buy some tums trust me it will help out alot and the symptoms don't last forever.. CONGRATS ON TAKING YOUR FIRST STEPS TO FIGHT PCOS!!!!

I am scared of having to go to bathroom when it is appropriate while I am with my clients. I am taking my met er in the evening and doing IR diet so I hope that I don't have too many bathroom moments during the day.

Points: 172.39 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 172.39 | Looks like there are several people starting met now or sometime soon. I took my first dose this morning (my doctor started me on 850 mg) and really haven't had any side effects so far to speak of. I do have a headache, but not sure if that's a side effect of the met or due to the fact that I didn't drink any coffee today!
Good luck to everyone! Its great to see that there are other people in similar situations and have some of the same worries/concerns. |
