Question ? about vitex

I have been using vitex for about a month now. I started with 800mg but it caused bloating, so I went to 400mg a day. My question is should I try something else with vitex? My estrogen levels are fine, but my progesterone levels are not (almost non-existing). Also I'm on glucophage xr 1000mg. I did receive af, it had been missing for 2 months. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Love
xoxo

Hi Dami,

I started Vitex myself about 3 months ago, and am in the same boat as you - periods are more regular, but still a little long, and I still have bad cramps/clots which mean low progesterone.

I'm considering using NPC again, though supposedly if Vitex is working right, you shouldn't need it.

Anyway, I have read it can take a LONG time for Vitex to show its full effects - up to 6 mos. I'm trying to be patient, but that is a long time!!!

L

PS you could also check the source of your Vitex - is it standardized? Some people have better luck with extracts than capsules.

I have been using Vitex (for the entire cycle) for about nine months. My cycles shortened and I was Oing, but DH and I are going to start ttc next cycle and I wanted more chances (ie, cycles shorter than 37 days). Two cycles ago I added Dong Quai to the mix (I take it all cycle except during AF). It has worked wonders! I now O on cd14...a first.

Once we start ttc I will probably only take both the Vitex and DQ pre-O, unless I lose the effects after a couple cycles.

Thanks for the replies back. I read somewhere that Dong Quai enhances utilization of estrogen. And that it should only be taken before you o. I don't think I o at all. And I work nights so taking bbt would be of no use because I don't always wake up at the same time or get the same hours of sleep. Oh and also read that it can cause you not to o, maybe because of the estrogen. I'm not real sure. I don't want to take something that going to give me more estrogen. I thought about trying False Unicorn Root, but I'm not for sure.

Thanks
Love
xoxo
