Default ? about the whole adjuvant and adjuvant free H1N1

Here in BC, they wanted pregnant women under 20 weeks to wait for the adjuvant free version the vaccine. Now Vancouver Coastal Health is saying they do not know if they are getting it in.

Is the adjuvant particularly risky for pregnant women? Can it cause a m/c

Anyone know??

What??? I'm in BC too and have been WAITING for that adjuvant free version. I work in a high risk place because multiple people have had it here, plus I have asthma. I'm going to one of my doctors today so I'll ask about it and let you know.

If that's true, that's just HORRIBLE!!!

I am waiting to get the non-adjuvant version as well, I haven't heard that it isn't coming....last I heard the government had ordered 200,000 or so doses from what they had leftover in Australia. I work in a hospital as well, and the most recent communication we had is that they are getting the non-adjuvant one for pregnant health care staff.

I have read conflicting information but most summarizes that if you are 20+ weeks, you should get the first vaccine available. Less than 20 weeks should wait for the non-adjuvant version.

That being said, if it isn't going to be available I think that the risks from the vaccine are much less than what can happen getting H1N1 when pregnant.

Here are a couple of articles that I found helpful:

p.s.....I think this only effects us Canadian Cysters.....the American vaccine is adjuvant free from what I understand.

What I live in BC as well and have been waiting for the adjuvent free one as well. I also called my OB and his nurse told me that she would get back to me which she never did. Let us know what you find. I am going to have to do some digging.

Are you ladies finding that its spreading in your communities quickly? We don't really have it bad where I am from but a neighbouring town is closing all their schools because of it. What is it like where you are at?

So my doctor wants me to do the shot with the adjuvant since I work in a high risk environment AND I have asthma. It was a stressful appointment so I forgot to ask if we were even getting the adjuvant free vaccine, sorry...

I am not trying to scare any of you ladies, but when I called Vancouver Coastal Health they told me "We aren't sure if we are getting the adjuvant free vaccine".

Needless to say, I am pretty pissed off because there was NO testing of the adjuvant version done on pregnant women.

As it is, H1N1 is all over BC, even in my small town, so I am pretty certain I will catch it before I get the vax.

I just made an appointment to talk to my Ob tomorrow about the shot. He has some at his office so I don't have to sit in line but I still don't want it. I am really scared of getting H1N1 though because my brother in Alberta is very very sick right now because of it.

I have heard that pregnant women should try to get the non-adjuvant version, but failing that, the adjuvent one should be administered. I'm also in BC

I have also read that there is a LOT more mercury in the non-adjuvent vaccine, so you may be trading one evil for another.

I personally don't think I will be getting any vaccinations while pregnant. I think my body will do what it does best and failing that, I have my Tamiflu and hospital nearby.

I'm just getting over the regular flu and I'm not planning on getting the H1N1 vaccine. There is just too much I've read that convinced me not to get it. I think the media and pharmaceutical companies are making it bigger then it is in order to make money. I have a hard time taking something that has not been tested thoroughly, especially on pregnant women and what the long term effects are on the baby. Part of me is scared of the H1N1 but the other part is scared of the unknown related to this vaccine.

Asher - This is what I found on the CDC's website...

Does the 2009 H1N1 monovalent flu vaccine have an adjuvant or squalene in it?

Adjuvants are agents that are sometimes added to a vaccine to increase its effectiveness. There are no adjuvants (such as squalene) in either the 2009 H1N1 monovalent or seasonal flu vaccines used in the United States.

Anna - I got the regular flu shot and am not likely to get the H1N1 shot. Noah will be born in less than a month and iim hoping that we beat flu season altogehter. I don't think i'll be going many places with him initially anyway.

I saw my OB on Tuesday and they would only give women over 20 weeks the adjuvanted vax. The non-adjuvanted vax is avaiable here today but I'm not getting either!

It is such a relief to read this thread. I am also not taking the vaccine. I work in science and the good thing about it is that you get first and second hand information. Not the kind of rubbish offered by the media. A colleague of mine's girlfriend is pregnant too. He met with a friend who actually manufactures the stuff. After a long discussion he decided not to do it, because the woman explicitly told that she wouldn't take the vaccine herself, it is not enough tested. The only reason why they don't tell people is because they are not allowed to by the company (Can you believe that!!:@). From the bottom of my heart, for the sake of all the women that took the vaccine, I hope it is actually safe.
