Does anyone have this? It is having the dreaded"dirty neck" and upper lip. Some people have it under there chin, arms, and breasts. I have it bad. My neck is so dark and now it has lines in that area too. Does anyone have this same problem and if so have you seen any improvement?

I think most of us have this...well from my observation anyway. I have it on my neck but it went away from under my arms and groin because Ive lost weight. The line on my neck is lightening also. I havent found any quick and easy solutions though! Sorry!

there really isn't anything that i know of my dr. gave me elidel for the back of my neck because it was starting to get really dark splotches. But it was pretty expensive and I am not sure that it is really helping. If it wasn't so darn hot here i would just leave my hair down to cover my neck.
I don't mind my dark patch on my neck - it's kind of like my PCOS badge. Whenever I am presented the opportunity to "witness" about PCOS, I whip down my collar so they can see my dark patch!
Hahah! June...I whipped out my A/N the other day at the ladies of Curves. I was passing out pamphlets about PCOS and they said "come here" so I went over and they were asking me questions about it. I was ready to work out so I just lifted up my hair and said-this is a major sign of PCOS, if you see someone with this line, they might/probably have it. They were all checking the back of each other's necks, it was funny.

I have it on the back of my neck and I also had it under my arms which was really embarrasing. For some reason though, it has disappeared from under my arms which I am soooo thankful. I lost a little bit of weight but now I have gained most of it back so I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not. I did notice too that it started getting lighter when I started cutting back on my sugars(probably just a weird ka winky dink but who knows?? LOL) Good luck with it though...

I have it too, and now that I am pg the spots are worse. I have it on the back of my neck, underarms/breasts, inside my elbows/thighs, and on my feet, knees, elbow&ankle bones. I even get it under my chin at its worst. It usually goes away after I have my babies and when I am really good about my sugars. I notice it more when I don't have cycles for awhile or I am eating/drinking a lot of sugary stuff. May try some of that green soap mentioned in the other post or the seltson blue.

I have it under my arms (more red than brown and too ugly to go sleeveless), just barely in the crease at my neck, and some slight shading under my breasts and around my waist. I lost some weight, but it hasn't gone away. From what I've read on the internet, it sounds like once you've got it, it never goes away unless you have it lasered or something.

I hope that is not the case. When I was thin I did not have any health problems whatsover and now that I am overweight it just seems that the problems keep magnifying. I truely believe that it will go away if I can get back to be thin like I was five years ago(160 pounds 5'8").(Currently 204) I am sort of tall so any weight that I loose shows quickly. My friends can't believe I weigh over 200 pounds. They say I don't look like it. I carry my weight well but I can sure feel it. I know I will always have pcos but if I could loose weight I think these symptoms might go away because I did not have them when I was at the correct weight for my height.

I have it around my groin, and I think I might be getting it under one of my breasts. The patch around my groin has been there for so long, and I only found out a couple of days ago that it was AN, thanks to reading another thread here. I googled it and it looks like the pictures that I found, but not as dark.
I have a question about it. When it's first starting to appear, what does it look like? I have a long line from the start of my left breast that goes right around underneathe it, but it doesn't really look like what I have in my groin. It's tan in colour, sometimes red, and it's very splotchy. Sometimes it looks a lot like normal dermatitus, but sometimes it's just dark and looks a tiny bit velvety. I've had it about a year now, and the Dr when she first saw it said it was probably a rash and gave me a cream to put on it, but that and my usual dermtitus cream didn't affect it at all. It doesn't itch like dermititus does either

There are plenty of PCOS women without acanthosis nigricans (AN). I've also seen men who have it terribly. So, it isn't just a "PCOS problem."
It really relates more to insulin problems, and since many of us have those issues, we also deal with the AN. Losing weight and/or being on metformin helps with insulin issues, which is why those women experience lightening of their dark spots.
What I have been doing is applying the same treatments to my neck as I do to my face. for many years my neck was neglected. Now that I am putting sunscreen on it during the day and I night I use glycolic acid (alpha hydroxy lotion "in the red box") and retin a. I have notice improvment in the smoothness and overall texture of the back of my neck area. it is also not as dark. hope this helps someone.
