Wow I have never heard of this. I just can't believe they can go off of there personnal beliefs . Just so I am understanding this, the law is backing these people up. I hope this does not effect any of our cycters that are on BCP.
My take, after having read a fair bit about the subject, is that the pill can prevent sucessful implantation of the fertilized egg in the uterine lining. But it won't terminate a sucessful pregnancy where the fertilized egg is implanted and growing. Now in my case, I don't consider that an abortion, but I guess that's really a moral decision for each woman to make for herself.
I do deeply resent the decision on the part of pharmacists to refuse to give women BCP, and especially to deny them emergency contraception (where time is of the essence.) If you aren't willing to fufill that part of your job, then you should find a different occupation, imo.

Sorry for shouting above, but I am so angry I almost can't type!!!
The part of that article that incensed me the most was the quote from the MALE senator/politician/whatever (Sorry, I'm English!!!).
When he gets a $%&£**! uterus he can speak, until then he should shut his trap!!!!
On an intellectual, more rational note, I realise that politicians are there to represent our views to the country at large without having a shouting match involving millions of people, but if what the article says is true, then 95% of American women approve of the BCP, and I find it highly unlikely that over half of those women will decide that the pill is a bad idea on the strength of doctors and pharmacists doing as reported in the article. That's who he should be representing - the majority!
And since when did people, especially Americans, not become able to make decisions for themselves?!?! The natural method, as was suggested by one of the doctors, is a bit of a joke, I'm afraid, and I speak as a Biology teacher. I see it as a method of contraception for those who wouldn't really mind if they got pregnant (NO OFFENCE to anyone, jmho)
This will be one story I will be telling at work tomoro!!!!

Some of us need the pill...arr I am so sick of middle aged men telling me what I can do with my body. arrr...aiieee...I'm hoppin mad...errrrr

these male politicians have no say, for one thing. no uterus - no opinion. and if these pharmacists don't want to distribute contraceptives b/c of their retarded morals then they should work somewhere other than pharmaceuticals. if docters don't want to perscribe bcps then they should be working in some other physicians field that does not require perscribing contraceptives. a load of idiots if you ask me. if my pharmacist ever dumped his or her petty morals on me like that there would be hell to pay.
