Default Accupuncture questions

Hello everyone, I am going to my first accupuncture treatment tommorrow, I was dx with PCOS about 3 weeks ago and have not had AF since April 20. I am nervous about the accupuncture and exited at the same time. I just do not know what to expect. If anyone who has had accupuncture can fill me in on some things about it i would really appreciate it.
Thanx

Sure! It sounds like you are in a similar boat that I'm in!

My last AF started in late March, and I recently had my bloodwork done.

I started acupuncture about 5 weeks ago, and I really enjoy it.

It shouldn't hurt at all (although when they go in it will feel like minor pinpricks), and how many needles they use and where they put them are dependant on your personalized treatment. They may use electro-acupuncture, which is when they attach leads to a couple needles and send electric current through them. It feels a little weird, but you won't notice it by the time they stop the current.

After putting the needles in, they will leave you alone for about a half hour. Then they will take the needles out, you'll turn over, and they'll put some needles in on your other side.

You may get comfortable enough that you'll fall asleep - I know I do! You may also feel a "woosh" when they put the needles in. I usually feel great after a session.

They may also prescribe herbs for you to take. They may not taste good but they'll help you get better.

Don't fret. I've been seeing an acupunturist for over a year and a half and I LOVE her. I was really scared at first, but once I realized how she was helping me, I not only relaxed, but I ALSO started to fall asleep during treatments.

The first time I went my TCM told me she could use the tiny facial needles if I wanted, so I needn't be frightened. She had only a few needles in those first few times, so I could get used to it, and not freak out. Nowadays, I have no problem. There's one spot that always makes me cry, but its emotional, not painful...

It's true about the 'woosh' actually. That's the energy channels opening to 'let the needle in'. The first time I was relaxed and felt that, it was SO cool. Now, I know when the needles enter, especially in my liver gall bladder channels, as I can ALWAYS sense it from that energy.

I have a few articles about acupuncture on my website, feel free to check it out. Also, on my blog, you can click the acupuncture category, and read my journal entries from the first few times I went to see my TCM. There's even one where I share my anticipation, just like you did in your post.

Let us know how it goes.

Thank You guys so much for your replies and advice. I am getting exited and really want this treatment to work because I really want to get knocked up soon-lol. I misscarried my first pregnancy and he/she i don't know what it was came out completely formed at 8 weeks, teeny of course but formed, looked like a little alien. I don't know if it was a chromosomal thing or if it was me-my fault-my hormones. I want to have good eggs so I have healthy babies and I want a lot of babies-4 to be exact. I hope this treatment works, I know I will have to be patient but I am really hoping it works soon. MY testosterone is really high and I look like a 14 year old boy with cystic acne all over my neck and jaw line. I will let you guys know how it goes. thanx again.

That's the unfortunate thing about PCOS treatments...it's all about patience. ggrrrr

I started acupuncture about 2 months ago. During and after the first session I got really sad. My acupuncturist said those feelings are normal. They're working on opening things up, and sometimes your emotions get in the way (sheesh!). Every session since then has been great. I always feel so calm and happy afterwards. Ask lots of questions. The people on my team are always willing to talk about what/why/how they're doing what they're doing. For me, the pulse and tounge things are the most intriguing.

Good luck and have fun!
