Has anyone been able to regulate their cycle only by following a diet?
And if yes and you were regular in the past, did your periods go back to how they used to be? Were your cycles longer?
I'm not overweight and I've been on the diet for almost three weeks. (I've got a nutritionist watching me. She happens to be a good friend of mine.) I used to have a regular cycle until a couple years ago and I was recently diagnosed after getting off BCP. I want to get a better idea of what and when to expect. I've already noticed an improvement with my acne and I really hope this will help me get my period again!
I'm not TTC right now, but would prefer to control PCOS through diet only, if possible.
No. An improved diet brought my cycle back but it took strength training and regular, intense exercise to regulate it. The good news is that exercise can be FUN!

I forgot to mention: I am exercising. I've been more active in the past, but I am doing some moderate exercise 3-4 times a week, 40-60 minutes each time.
It sounds like you're already doing quite a bit. The only thing I would suggest is to pick up the intensity of your workouts, especially since you're only going 3-4 times per week, and make sure you're doing a good mix of strength training and cardio. Lots of people like to just focus on the cardio but strength training is what seems to really make our efforts go that extra mile.

Yes, after being dx'd with pcos when I was 18 (I was obese when I was dx'd), I went on a very strict 1200 cal/day (I weighed and measured everything) and low carb program. I lost over 50 pounds in about 6 months. At about the 30 lb mark, I started getting cycles, although they were a bit long (36-40 days). I was so excited! The more weight I lost, the more regular they became. When I started adding in weight training and very vigorous exercise, I started o'ing more consistently and having 30-32 day cycles.
Good luck!

Thanks. I'm glad to hear that diet and exercise (alone) can make a difference. My period has been pretty unpredictable since I got off the pill. I actually got it at the beginning of this past week, meaning my cycle was 7 weeks this time. That's an improvement. I was only on the diet for about 4 weeks, so it's promising! I'll have to see how things will play out this month since I'll be on the diet (and will be doing regular exercise) for the whole cycle.
wow, I have read a lot about diet helping PCOS, but today is the first day I am reading about exercise helping a lot as well. I am going to have to step it up!
