Angry Acne???

So I never had a problem with pimples growing up and now they (3 or 4 at a time) keep popping up. I know it is a symptom of PCOS but I kinda stopped wearing much make up last summer and it seemed to help. Now if I wear make up i break out and it's driving me crazy. Has anyone had this problem? PCOS related or not. My husbands aunt said I should try a more natural make up. What do you wash with or what kind of make up do you wear? Any help would be great!

Mrs. Z,

To answer your questions:

--yes, my skin is MUCH clearer if I cease with all foundation. Not even on an occasional basis. It makes my skin break out big time by the next day, even if i have it on just once in a while and for only a few hours. I've tried probably 10+ different kinds of foundation, same result. Same is true if I wear any kind of lotion or cream that is too heavy. I think the principle is the same: skin just can't breathe. I doubt a "more natural" makeup would be helpful...however YMMV. I know it's hard (I eventually developed Rosacea likely as a result of constant BP usage for acne; I always want to cover up the redness) but really it may help like you found the other summer to just stay away from it. My derm was pretty clear about not using foundation as well.

--I wash with Aquanil 2x day. It's very mild. it will likely not remove foundation from your face, it will only gently clean your skin.

Hope this helps.

I only wear foundation for special occasions that I want to look really great but I know I will pay for it within a few hours and start seeing pimples. I just use a mineral powder by Mary Kay with blush and clean my brushes OFTEN (very important if you are prone to acne ). I use Mary Kay skin care as well, their time wise cleanser and moisturizer and the acne gel for spot blemish treatment. They also have a blemish control toner but it is very strong and if your skin is sensitive it would not be good for you but I use it occasionally.
Also, DIET, DIET DIET - if you have not I HIGHLY recommend that you start trying to cut down on dairy and grains and sugar. It is tough. I first went with just cutting out gluten and that helped a lot. My acne almost disappeared. I am currently trying to find the balance of what I can have a little of and what I need to avoid altogether. Try doing one thing at a time, like dairy for instance, and do it for 3 to 4 weeks and see what happens. I have been experimenting for almost 2 years. Its all trial and error and finding a combo of what works and what you can live without.
Good luck and know there is lots of us out there that feel your pain!

I only use concealer (when I do wear makeup) I use it, you know, under the eyes etc... Full foundation any type, any brand makes me break out. A friend told me to use Monistat Soothing Care under my foundation...yeah right I never broke out so bad in my life!! It's not the yeast infection stuff, it's used to prevent chafing and supposedly it has the same texture as expensive makeup bases.
GrandPa's Pine Tar Soap for the acne is the only way to go!

Default Gluten free and a zinc supplement and now acne free

I have been gluten free for a year and I have lost 70 pounds, my skin has cleared up and my periods are more regular. My hair has also stopped falling out. I feel alive again! I posted a new thread under General called PCOS linked to gluten allergy, take a look. I started taking a zinc supplement because celiacs stops your body from absorbing important minerals and vitamins and now my skin is really clear. I was lacking in iron and zonc especially.
