I used to have bad acne for years and i promise i tried everything under the sun...EVEN PROACTIV!!! In the end I found that what worked for me was really simple... I started using PURPOSE facial bar soap day and night and then following up with a 10% benzoyl peroxide cream and *poof* just like that my acne was gone. I dont think i would recommend it for someone with dry skin but i have combination skin which used to be more oily most of the time and it worked GREAT!!

Girls,

Serious Skin Care has revolutionized my life since 1998! A friend told me about it and it is the only thing that clears my terrible acne. I buy it on eBay much cheaper than buying on the Home Shopping Network. I use A Wash and the Glycolic Cleanser. Then I moisturize with A Copper Cream. All Serious Skin Care products. The line was designed by a model that suffered with career threatening acne. She's now the wife of Sylvester Stallone! She works hand-in-hand with a highly respected dermatologist in creating these amazing products. They also have peels that do wonders for getting rid of pesky rough spots. But I just use an exfoiliating pad with the glycolic wash about once every 6 weeks and my skin feels so soft now! The products last a good while and also come in smaller sizes for trying it out. Try the 4 oz sizes of the washes I mentioned and definitely get the moisturizer. I have oily skin and this A copper moisturizer keeps my face balanced well so that the sebum isn't creeping out every pore trying to hydrate my face. LOL!

MUST HAVES by Serious Skin Care:
A-Copper Cream
Glycolic Cleanser
and
A-wash gel to foam cleanser

Hope it works for your skin and well as it has for mine!

Smile What I have tried....

I dont think I could list everything I have ever tried. I mean my cabinets are full of things that didnt work. Prescriptions, OTC, creams, gels, etc. Right now I have what I consider to be an extensive list of things I use, but it does seem to be helping finally.

So here goes:

Morning:
Wash with Oxy SA bar soap. Massage in gently for about 1-2 minutes. Rinse. Take a small amount of Oxy 10% BP face wash and massage onto skin. Leave on 10-15 minutes. Wash off. Any longer than that it starts irritating my face. Then I put a small dot of Finacea and moisturizer in hand, blend and apply to face. Let dry. Then I spread a thin layer of primer over face and start my makeup application.

IF I have a cyst or pimple, I use my face washes as above. Then I take a lancet (from drugstore) and use that to puncture it. Then I take tissues wrapped around my fingers and gently push and press around the area. If nothing comes out, I move on to the treatment with Finacea. If I do have stuff come out, I blot the area and press to clot and apply my Finacea.

Night:
Wash with Oxy SA bar soap. Same as above. Rinse. Use the Oxy BP face wash again. For a little less time, like 5 minutes or so. Rinse. Apply Dr. Brandt Poreless Gel (SA). And go to bed.

Every few days or as needed: St. Ives Microdermabrasion scrub. New one with crystals. Gets all the dead skin off from the BP and SA.

I have been clearing recently. And (knock on wood) I have had no new cysts form in the past few weeks that I have done this routine. I am hoping that someday, I can take this routine down a few notches. But for now, I do what is working. Anything to combat the acne.

(I am on the NuvaRing, however, it is not contributable to any acne changes. It hasnt done anything to change my face, good or bad)

I have cystic acne pretty bad all over my face. Sometimes it hurts so bad I can't even touch my face. I have tried things like proactive, cediphil and even the antibiotic, gel, and facewash my Derm. perscribed, but none of them have worked.

I have found that metformin keeps my skin 99% clear, but I also use a prescription cream benzaclin (at night) and finacea (in morn). Without metformin, I had more breakouts even with using the face creams. BCP helps, too. Without any of those things, my face is an absolute mess of acne, mainly around my jawline, chin, and cheeks.

I have finally found products that actually work! I purchased the Continuously Clear Adult Regimen Starter Kit from HSN. Then I added the Serious Skin Care A-Copper Peptide Duo; Copper Oil Control Serum and Cream. These products balance out my skin perfectly. I am so happy to have products that will hydrate my skin without causing breakouts and control the oil.

Default Proactiv!

Hello Cysters! The only product that has worked for me is Proactiv. It is awesome! You can set up shipments when you want it delivered. I get the kit every 12 weeks. It works so fast- the commercials are straight -up! Also, It hasn't dried my face out like other products. I would recommend it to anyone! Have a great day!!!

I just started using Neutrogena's Advanced Solutions kit. It works very similarly to Proactiv, but you can get it at your local drug store instead of ordering through the mail (comparable in price)

I noticed a change RIGHT away..
There are 3 products in the kit:

Gentle Exfoliating Face Wash - I always used St. Ives apricot scrub daily before this --- I think that was a big mistake.. it was so harsh and every time I got out of the shower my blemishes were even redder because I'd scrubbed the crap out of them! This stuff is much better, and it doesn't irritate my skin.

Daytime Oil-Free Lotion --- I love this stuff too.. For SIX YEARS I used the same lotion on my face.. it was this stuff called "Skin Trip"... it smelled great and moisturized my face really well - but one day I looked at the ingredients and it's full of coconut oil, which I'm sure was clogging my pores and only making my acne worse. (oops..!)

Night Cream - this stuff dries the crap out of your skin.. you use it after washing your face at night. It's super drying, but you wake up in the morning with WAY less acne! All my little bumps were much smaller.. or gone completely! And all my acne felt dried out - so all I had to do was exfoliate with the daily face wash again in the morning, and all the dry skin got scrubbed off!

I noticed a huge change within DAYS of using these 3 products - Give 'em a try.

My dermatologist has suggested an inexpensive remedy for breakouts around your mouth . Whiteners in toothpaste can breakouts, because we all drool at night, to some degree (I didn't want to hear that!) Anyway, she recommended buying toothpaste at the Dollar Store. Look for the package that says "toothpaste". Nothing more. This change seems to have made a difference for me!
