I switched from the Mary Kay Timewise Line to the Velocity cleanser and moisturizer ALONG with their Blemish Control Toner. Funny, Velocity is geared towards the younger gals, typically acne prone, right? Well, we may not all be 'young' but we may fit the acne bill. I also use the Acne Treatment Gel when needed. I have had really good luck with it. My MK lady suggested it and I have owed her ever since!

Clearasil Daily cleanse (it's nice and foamy) and Pure Zone by Loreal (it's a pore unclogging cleanser)
I just started using the Clearasil on my face and it's already helping!
The Loreal product I've used for washing my throat (shaving and plucking have cause ingrowns and the buffing beads help open up the skin over each follicle...I've since stopped the shaving and am now cutting the hair individually with cuticle scissors above the skin line...it's helping tremendously)
I never thought I'd have worse skin as an adult than I did as a teenager...it's very depressing.
I received my Proactiv in the mail yesterday afternoon and started using it last night. So, I will keep all you cysters up to date on my progress! I just want it to take me back to pre PCO skin!

I had been on birth control for seven years and never saw a breakout. I had the clearest skin. However, I stopped birth control in November '06 to TTC, was diagnosed with PCOS and the breakouts haven't stopped since. I was looking in to using Proactiv because I had heard so many people ranting about it and I was desperate. But, the sales girls said that you should consult your doctor before using it. Has anyone used it while they are TTC?

in desperation i found this website! I appreciate everyone's input. I'm an adult too old to have/battle acne, severe at times. After reading lots of your posts, i went to ebay and ordered extra-strength clear&smooth, and a tube of acnomel. I tried proactiv 5 yrs ago; it worked for months, but think my skin got used to it. Last year i finally saw a dermatologist, who prescribed aldactone. mg, the first week it cleared up. However after a week on the med. i got so ill from it i went off of it. I stayed acne-free for an entire month, then it returned, i tried the Aldactone again for 3 days and again it made me so weak i could barely get up and walk across the room.
I'm getting desparate again and thought i'd buy the Aldactone on the internet... but WANTED TO KNOW IF ANYONE else has had side effects from it. Luckily both attempts of mine last year were on my time off & was staying at my moms, or I would have to have taken sick leave...i had NO strength, no energy, not even enough to breathe at times. I'm a runner- and energy-loaded, so this was quite alarming/ wondering if it was because of the summer heat, or the stress of being away from home- but i just layed out there on mom's couch for days.
Has anyone had a similar reaction to Aldactone? I can't find ANY info about this drug's side-effects treating ACNE, on the internet. I want to avoid the effects but the acne is OUT OF HAND. Any input i'd appreciate and deem VALUALBE!! Thank you!
Ok, it's been 1 month since I started Proactiv and my skin is doing great! It is clear and smooth! My makeup has never went on this easy or looked this good! Now, just as long as I don't have the same problem as Mavsfan!
Mavsfan, I am so sorry that you are having such a hard time.

My skin was really quite clear while I was on the pill (I was on Cileste) but a couple of weeks after I stopped taking it (requested by my endocrinologist) my skin started breaking out. Now 4 months down the line, my skin is the worst it's ever been!!!
Oddly enough, the only thing that has worked on my cystic acne-prone skin is Noxema. I leave it on for 10-25 minutes and wash it off. My skin is very oily, but seriously dries out with any of the other treatments that I have tried. Noxema keeps it balanced and relatively zit-free.
I had tries lots of different products for my acne and nothing really worked. I tried a search on ebay for acne treatments and found a great chinese herbal shop that sells a great soap called LILY SOAP and a lotion called 101 ACNE GETAWAY.
After using these for a couple of weeks my skin was clear. I wouldnt try anything else now. I have recommended these products to other people and they all think the same as me.
The shop on ebay is called
CHINESE HERBS NATURAL TREATMENT
If that isnt the right name for the shop do a search for the soap and you should get to it.
I am going to have to try some of these recommedations. Proactiv worked for me somewhat but not 100%. Having both sensitive skin and acne is such a pain!!

I suffered from acne and horrible skin since I was 14. I've literally tried almost EVERYTHING (over the counter and prescription) and have suffered from chemical burns, allergic reactions, and yes, still acne in the meantime. There were only 2 topical treatments that helped me. One was a spa line called Dermalogica. Dermalogica in conjunction with facials worked wonders for my skin, but it was very expensive, and I couldn't continue.
I started Aldactone (Spiro) a few weeks ago, and I believe it probably has helped my skin. Before started Spiro though, my dermatologist recommended that I use Klaron lotion and Differin gel. I use the Differin on my arms/chest/back when I get out of the shower, and I use the Klaron (generic is 10% Sulfacetamide Sodium topical suspension) in the morning and at night after I wash my face with Cetaphil (for normal/oily skin). The difference in my skin was noticeable long before the Aldactone (about 2 months before), and I haven't experienced any negative effects from the topical acne treatments. (I haven't experienced any negative side effects from the Aldactone either. . .knock on wood.)
Please Please Please do not buy Aldactone without the consent of your doctor. I understand your pain, but as a Medical Student, I would advise you to exercise caution. Aldactone is a potassium-sparing diuretic meaning that it causes your kindeys to retain potassium and keep it in your blood. Potassium levels should be monitored by your doctor if you are taking a drug like this. Muscle pain/weakness while taking a drug like this could indicate elevated potassium levels. This could lead to bigger problems, and as a runner and athlete, you especially can't afford for that to happen.
