Default actos

So I am going to start trying to get pregnant and my doc wants me to go on actos - then on the news I heard about this website called wortspills.org and actos is on there. For any of you that have taken it is it safe and if you know does it work to creat pregnancy?

Thanks,
Sadie

The current thinking is that it is safe but I have also read some of the warnings about it. Just watch your side effects and have your liver enzymes drawn while on it. Many of these sites are run by lawyers trying to make a buck off lawsuits. Actos and avandia are similar to a med. that was pulled off the market for causing liver damage. So far these two newer meds. have not shown to cause this and believe me, there are many, many people on them.

It may help you get pregnant because it helps your body to cycle and possibly even ovulate without fertility medication. It lets your body work naturally by blocking the insulin's effect on the ovary. This helps even if you are not IR since women with PCOS have mixed signals and sensitivities to insulin which is a powerful hormone. Hope this helps. I would take it! Baby dust to you!!!

I'm not currently ttc, but actos has made me ovulate and have normal cycles (no bcp or other fertility meds). Good luck - sending lots of baby dust your way!

I am an actos success story.

I was prescribed Actos in September of 2002. Within a couple of months, my periods became like clockwork.

After ttc for four years, we found out we were pg, on a rest cycle from IUIs, in May of 2003. My healthy baby boy was born in Jan. 2004!~

You just need to make sure that as soon as you find out you are pg that you discontinue use of the Actos. Otherwise it is fine to take. As a matter of fact, I am still on it!

Good luck!

WOW that is exactly what I want to happen to me. So how long were you on it before you got pregnant? Are there any risks involved in being on it? Did you gain weight from it?
Thanks,
Sadie

It took me about seven months from the time I started it until i got pg.

I did gain weight when I went back on it after I had DS--about 10 lbs, but I was also starting bcps at that time as well. KDoc put me on it for insulin resistance.

As far as risks, the liver thing was already mentioned, so I am sure that your doc will have you tested every so often. I was just told to make sure that I stopped taking it once I found out I was pg. My DH has been on it for years for his diabetes, and he is just fine.

I am a firm believer in Actos. It is amazing how quickly it put my cycles back in sync!

Babydust to you!

I've been on Actos since April of last year. I started ovulating in October. What a surprize! I took Met for 2 1/2 years and nothing. I'm currently in the 2ww on my 4th "normal" cycle in a row! I love this stuff!

Default I loved Actos

My cycle was back to normal and like clockwork within a month of being on it. Unfortunately, it didn't do enough for my insulin levels and i gained a little bit of weight while i was on it, so my doctor has put me back on Metformin...which i hate and i'm stalling on taking.

I would go back on Actos in a second if i could. We'll just see how this met thing goes the second time around.
