Question Actos...anyone?

Hi, girls. My name is Jennifer, my DH's name is Frank. We have 2 daughters Kaitlyn (3-20-2003) and Kayla (12-27-2000). We are currently TTC#3.
In july of this year I got pregnant, I had a M/C. I couldnt "pass" it, so in Oct my doctor prescribed provera. My period started Oct. 27. I am now 2 weeks late. I have had multiple U/S for the cysts, and the tubal, that i M/S.
I went to the doctor today, and she diagnosed me with PCOS. She prescribed Actos, 30mg, QD. She also stated that I should come back in Feb. and we will try Clomid.
I am very scared of Clomid, we would like to have 1 baby, or maybe 2! The thought of 4 or 5 babies scare me. I was just wondering if anyone else is taking Actos, or has that could give me an idea of what to expect, and a doctor who has made similar "game" plans?

thanks girls!

Hi Jen! Welcome to the site...that's interesting that you weren't diagnosed with pcos until after your first two kids. Well now that you know make sure you educated yourself. This site is soooo great for that.

If you go the Medications forum you can look up posts that relate to Actos. If I'm not mistaken actos is the same thing as metformin. I have heard that even by getting your blookd sugars regulated that the meds will help your body get back on track with it's cycles and all of that. You may not even have to go on clomid. Look up metformin as well if I'm not correct on the actos thing. I know this is only a little bit of information but I saw you were new and wanted to welcome you and start to get you on your way.

If you scroll down tothe Forum Jump and find the one that says other medications and metformin. YOu can start a thread to ask a question or find old threads that relate to your topic. Good luck and reply back if you have more questions.

Wink odd huh?

I never had any problems with the other 2 kids, infact my 1st I got preggy on the pill, the 2nd child I had just gotten off the pill and it was my first month TTC. Maybe its that I have gained 80 pounds witht the kids? I dunno, but thanks! I have looked around and im glad I finally found a forum that has the same issues as me!

Hey! Welcome to the site! I take Actos and I love it! I tried Met and it has AWFUL side effects! I hope Actos works as well for you as it has for me b/c Met is BAD on the GI tract. It gave me constant upset stomach! Feel free to ask any questions! I have had irregular periods all my life,no babies yet,1 failed round of clomid, down to 1 ovary, and PCOS.Still I have irregular periods but I induce with progesterone every month. So I am doing good,I guess. The progesterone keeps me regular.I am 26,DH is 29,and we are not in to big of a hurry for a baby but we don't want to wait to long either!Well, Good Luck with everything! And again feel free to ask any questions!

Hi! I actually take both Actos and Met XR. Actos worked great for me. I'm not 100% sure that I was O'ing, b/c I'm not TTC, but I would get my period almost like clockwork for about 6 months each time I increase my dose. I'm a little worried, b/c it seems like it will work for a while and then need to be increased.....Hmmmmm....That's when they added the Met XR.... They are not the same and work differently in the body. Same basic idea, just a different method to work....??? I dunno really Good luck with #3.

I've been on Actos for 2 1/2 years and haven't had any siginificant side effects. Met, on the other hand, was a nightmare trip to the hospital for me. Good luck with it!
