actos and weight gain

Has anyone else noticed easy weight gains without increasing what they ate?

I have been dieting now for over two weeks. Drinking slimfast Optima drinks and eating salads and I even worked out on the treadmill several days last week until I got dissappointed that I was gaining weight instead of losing it. I Have gain another 10 pounds in the last two months like it was nothing. To me 10 pds. is alot of weight to gain when I have not been eating alot compared to what I used to.

Does Avandia make you gain weight? I'm thinking when I go back on the 30th of this month and I haven't lost any weight after dieting for almost a whole month I'm going to ask to be swithced to Avandia ,providing that it doesn't cause weigh gain also. THese damn drugs they use for PCOS its like a catch 22 situation. on one hand you don't take the med. you don't have your periods and when you don't have your periods its hard to lose weight on the other hand you take these drugs and either they made you sicker then a dog and you don't feel like doing anything and you seat around and don't get any exercise and you gain weight or can't lose it or you take some and exercise and diet and they make you gain weight like you were eating for two or something.

I really am at the point where I'm starting to lose hope. At first when I got on this medicine and I started to have my cycles I was like Finally now Im regular so now I should finally start to be able to lose this freaking weight, wrong.

Please anyone that knows more about Avandia please post and let me know. I'm getting deseparate .

I can totally relate with your situation. I took Avandia last year and it seemed to be my miracle drug. I was regular and even ovulated. Then.., the fluid kept coming on. I was very swollen and bloated. I was very concerned and went off of it. So here I sit on bc pills because I didn't have anything else to do. Avandia causes the same water retention problems as Actos but as my dr. said, you could try Avandia and see if the symptoms are less on it.

I hate PCOS and am sick to death of not knowing what is best. I hate bc pills and can't tolerate met. What is a girl to do!!!

Hang in there and do what makes you feel the best day to day is what I say!!!

Hope someone else can give you some more help. I just wanted to let you know you are not alone!

I unfortunately have also had the same problem with Actos. My weight is currently up about 20 pounds since I started it about 6 months ago.

I am now on Avandia, and watching my weight closely, I'll let you know if it seems to be any better on this one.

I am was in the same boat with you all.. after 5 months on Actos I gained 35 lbs. I tried dieting, but that didn't work. I tried exercise, but my hands and feet became so swollen after a 30 minute walk, that I just gave up.

My Dr. put me on 2000 Mgs of Metformin and so far my weight has been dropping steadily and my cycles started right up. Funny but I might even be pregnant!

Good luck with Actos, but if your swelling up.. I suggest changing medication..

Not to sure about Avandia, I never tried it...
