Has anyone every tried acupuncture? If so what was the outcome?
I'm really thinking about giving it a try and I'm not sure what kind of questions to ask my acupucturist? Or how to determine which one I should go to. I've asked friends and coworkers and the only thing I have heard is one that I shouldn't go to. So what kinds of questions should I ask?
Oh yeah and the reason I want to go is to see if I can get my period on a regular basis. I have been taking prometrium but that has stopped working too.
I have been doing acupuncture now for the past two months, and has help me quite a bit. Hot flashes, regular AF past two months, ovulation, hair growth, etc.... I am trying to conceive-so I read The Infertility Cure, by Randine Lewis, which has a checklist to ask your acupuncturist regarding different hormonal imbalances, you may have. I would suggest, you consult with someone who specializes in Traditional Chinese Medicine, as depending on your situation, the doctor may need to prescribe certain herbs for you. I think acupuncture affects everyone differently, but if you can stand a little prick of needle it is worth a try, but please make sure to use someone with a lot of experience. It can get pricey as well.
I decided to go with a consultation this last Thursday... and I have my first appt next Thursday. So I'm pretty excited. I'm reading up on everything that I can find about chinese herbs and acupucture... etc. I like to be educated so when I go in I have a clue about what is being told to me.
I just started acupuncture last week to also try to bring on a period. No results yet, as I have only had one treatment. But I am going back next week for a follow-up and am hoping that I see some results eventually!
Miller1975, how long did it take for you to see results? Are you using other treatments simultaneously to treat? Congrats on the success so far!
Hello I had been TTC for around 5 years I had very irregular periods sometimes I would go 5 months without one. I tried provera/prometrium/metformin and even 3 rounds of clomid without results. Someone told me of this natural doctor about 2.5 hours from my house. I thought maybe it was crazy but I would give anything a try so I went he did acupuncture and gave me a few different types of natural herbs to try the next month I had a period and I have every since then about 1 and 1/2 years now. I only took the meds about 6 months and I think it got my cycle on the correct tract. I also have became pregnant TWICE within one year. The first time ended in M/C at 6 weeks and this time I am 12 weeks and everything is looking great. I took no prescription meds to get pregnant either time. The first time I was off the herbs about 3 months and have not been on them since so this time was a SUPRISE BFP. I do think I owe it to the herbs and acupunture that got me straightened out in the first place. I have also had acupunture on more than one occasion but not on a regular basis due to the distance from my house. I guess it was part of the fix. I am not a very patient person so laying there for up to an hour was very boring to me but whatever works. This all may sound crazy to some people and that is okay buy me. Oh ya, It does not hurt one bit!!!!!

n.e.t.t.y, My treatments cost $90 each. I think that is pretty standard for acupuncture. Sometime health insurance will reimburse for part, but most likely it won't. You would have to check your policy if you have insurance.
The introductory session is usually a little more, like around $120.
I'm seeing an acupuncturist once a week (have only had a couple of sessions so far). She charges $60/session (that's with a 25% discount from my health insurance). My husband and I just spent sometime this weekend talking about whether or not I should keep going--I know I need to give it time to work, a few months, and that could end up costing us more than $1000 (the acupuncturist is also giving me herbs, and started taking Vitex a week ago). But after reading up on it, and on the potential side effects of Clomid, we decided it's worth to give it a try for another 4-6 months to see if I start ovulating. It's comforting to read the positive experiences you all have had with acupuncture/herbs. I'm trying to be patient, but this whole thing is so frustrating.

I started acupuncture about three weeks ago. I am pretty sure that I ovulated. Now I'm in the tww.
The acupuncturist I see is actually in OB/GYN that has also been trained in acupuncture. He has hope that this will help regulate my periods and hopefully help me conceive. I did try Clomid and Femara, but no ovulation or period.
I pay about $53 per session, I get a discount because I pay at the time of service.
flipflops24/7 - that is great that you think you ovulated!! I have had two sessions and definitely feel crampy and what not, but am not sure what is going yet. I am keeping my fingers crossed!
I have started acupuncture. I got AF just short of two weeks after my first session. I go again around ovulation time. I also take chinese herbs. She changes them at different parts of my cycle.

I did acupuncture, and it did take 2 mos. to see an improvement in my cycles. However, the needling did aggravate my arthritis. Eventually I did just the herbs, and I got a bfp 3 mos after stopping acupuncture. It was a m/c, and some of the formulas probably helped my then undiagnosed clotting disorder. But it was my first natural bfp in over 4 years. I live in NY, and paid $65 a session. $90 is rather high unless you live in a big city. I will be paying $50 with my new acu, who is actually more experienced than my old acu.
We have a flexible spending account, so thankfully the entire slated amt. is available the first of the year. It really helps, as it is untaxed & taken out of your paycheck weekly, rather than having to suck up a big amt. for the initial consult & the sessions thereafter.
And as 4evryng said, the formula she used isn't necessarily going to help someone else. Everyone is different. For example one person's m/c's may be caused by deficiency heat or yin deficiency, and another from a cold uterus, and yet another from blood stasis (poor circulation) and on & on.
