I'm 23 and from Ireland, but studying in England. Just putting this message here as I've never really told anyone else with PCOS about my experience with acupuncture.
I originally didn't start my periods naturally: I went to the doctor when I was around 16, and she put me on Dianette to kick-start my periods. It did work, but I never had regular periods, I'd have them for max. 6 months of the year. I've had many blood tests which showed that I have that offset LH:FSH ratio that can indicate PCOS..though this is something that not many doctors know: it was a gynaecologist who pointed it out to me. No doctors ever mentioned PCOS to me, it was me that asked them if I had it, to which they would reply that I didn't because I am not overweight. I have lots of excess hair (great!) and I still get spots. Eventually the aforementioned gynae doctor told me that he is nearly 100% sure that I have it, which was really a relief to hear from a doctor.
Anyways, at my mums suggestion (and/or insistence!) I went to an acupuncturist last summer. Prior to this, I hadn't had a period for about a year. I really was very skeptical of this therapy, but thought to go for the craic anyway. I went every week for about 2 months I think and had acupunture, and I was given chinese herbs that had to be taken twice every day. I had a period within a few weeks, and then another after 3 weeks, and eventually the time between periods and their heaviness levelled out. I came over to England in September so stopped the acupuncture then, and continued taking the tablets until ~November. I have now been having monthly periods for almost a year, which has never actually happened before.
I still have the hair (which appears to get worse the older I get), and am becoming slightly resigned to the fact that I will never have good skin (though I think the herbs did initially help), but at least I'm having periods, which is the main concern health-wise of PCOS, and what people trying to conceive are most interested in. Restarting my periods after a year was good going I feel. So, just if anyone is considering acupuncture and chinese herbs, I think it's worth a try and it is an interesting experience in itself!

Miss-elaineous I am a total believer! I strated acup in February of this year. We tried a few chinese herbs but because of the taste they rarely stayed down. So I'm just taking vitamins now. I had my first period on my own in April 10 days long. Another one in May 15 days long, June 3 days long. So we shall see how things turn out. I truely do believe that acup and taking vitamins has helped me more than anything else ever has! Its amazing how something I was so skeptical over has helped me the most. I tell everyone that they needs to see my doctor!
