On occasion I have read posts about those of you who have had success with acupuncture. Can you tell me more about it? How long did you receive treatments for before having af or O? Is there certain people you should stay away from when looking for someone that performs acupuncture? Do you need to tell them the reason why you want their help since some people go to quit smoking...I would go to have af/O.
Thanks for any insight on this.

Hello, bluedolphin!
I just started acupuncture 2 months ago and have been for 3 appointments.
I have had one period since, however I also started using Natural Progesterone Cream (NPC) so I am not sure which one is to THANK, however I think it was a combination of both theraphies.
You asked if there was someone you should stay away from when looking for an acupuncturist...I would recomend you find someone who you feel very, very comfortable with and relaxed around. Acupuncture can be very powerful, at least it has been for me. I have been experiencing feelings and memories that I haven't in years and I am sure it's due to the acupuncture and the fact my practicioner encourages me search my soul, meditate, etc. Also, this person is going to be sticking needles in you, so you need to be comfortable with them.
I would say, yes, you have to tell them what you are seeing them for. That goes hand in hand with being comfortable with them. You should listen to your heart/instincts. Do you feel they are a healer? Do you feel comfortable with them and telling them somewhat embarrasing things (i.e. things about periods, cervical mucous, etc.)
I go to a woman and I find it is much easier to relate to her and share these things with.
I also want to recomend 2 books to you:
Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom-Christiane Northrup, M.D.
The Infertility Cure-Randine Lewis
Both are great books geared towards women and both have great info on PCOS and acupuncture.
I hope this helps! Good Luck!

I have had great success with acu! I am now 9 weeks PG after 3 years of trying. I started the second week in June & He saw me every 2 weeks. Buy July 20th I had o'd, & ovously it worked! I am continuing to see him though out this pregnancy, I had my second u/s yesterday & the RE was pleasently surprised at the blood flow to & from my uterus! He said he hadnt ever seen any one with such flow. My acu said he would help keep the baby by increasing blood flow, again ovbiously what the acu is doing is working wonders on me! He is now seeing me every 3 weeks during PG.
As for who you see, I would first do some checking around with any one you run into to see if they have heard any good/bad news about an acu. Then I would make an app with the one you might want to see & just tell them you dont want a treatment that day you just want to ask some questions before you decide who you will see(remember this is your body & if they are not willing to do that then they are not worthy of treating your temple!). During your questions I would make sure you feel comfortable & then ask for referances of other women your acu treated. I did all that it was worth it, alot of leg work, but all well worth it.
I would make it a piont to tell the acu why your going there & how they feel about treating that & how they would treat it, how many women they have treated & what kind of out come have they had.
Like I said, its alot of work, but they are sticking you with things & messing with your body... you wouldnt (well I hope not) just walk into any doc office & say here I am treat me!
If you have any more questions PM me! Or email me anauta@eatonhitch.com

Blue74dolphin: I have been seeing an acupuncturist for 4 months, weekly. My doctor is a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor. He specializes in infertility/PCOS. In my case, I O'd 2 days after my first treatment, however, I was gearing up to O when I went in. It's possible that the acupuncture finally helped me to release the egg, though. Since then, I had a long cycle at 63 days, then my last one was down to 39 days.
At my first appointment, I had to fill out a questionnaire with a bunch of questions to help the acu figure out my diagnosis. Then the doctor asked me a bunch of other questions as well.
In addition to helping with my cycle length, I really feel great. In fact, I don't think I've ever felt this healthy before.
