Angry Acupuncture/chinese medicine

Hello,

Im feeling really down at the moment and have been prescribed some tablets from the doc but i'll be honest - i dont like taking them. have been on them for 3 weeks now and they dont seem to be doign anything.

my skins really bad, im bloated and my periods are really irregular and painful. i feel like i have permanent pmt and am really struggling to get on with things.

ive thought about acupuncture and chinese medicine before, and i was just wondering if anyone had tried it/had success with it?

also - there really is just so much out there - ive thought of agnus castus as well and have even bought some, but wasnt sure whether i should take it with the tablets from the doc?

ive found a local Dr Herbs place near me which im thinking of trying. i think i prefer the idea of it being natural rather than prescribed drugs?

any ideas/advice would really really be much appreciated. i feel like i need some kind of boost.

xx

Hello!
I highly recommend acupuncture/chinese herbal medicine. I definitely had some success influencing my hormones with acupuncture and herbs. The only reason I stopped going to my practitioner was because it got a little cost prohibitive and also the sessions were 1.5 hours a few times per week, which was too hard for me, as I've got small kids.

At the very least, acupuncture is infinitely relaxing. Acupuncture also has great documented success in treating women's health issues. I do suggest finding a practitioner who specializes in women's health.

It's worth a shot, it may be your answer!

Good Luck!
Amanda

I also strongly recommend alternative therapies. Just don't expect them to work quickly, either. They won't make you feel worse, which is good (or if they do, you can just stop taking them, and the effect will stop, unlike drug side effects). But herbs and natural methods don't usually work quickly. They heal the body, so that takes longer than drugs, which just do the body's job for it (which in the long run makes you worse).

Are the tablets anti-depressants? If so, some take a while to kick in, and it can be uncomfortable and even dangerous to come off them suddenly. Please discuss with your Dr before stopping them suddenly or mixing them with any other herb or medication. Of course, acupunture shouldn't affect your medication.

I would definitely recommend talking to a qualified herbalist or chinese medicine specialist or acupunturist. Just don't forget to tell them what you're taking.

Take care,
Alex

p.s. Just noticed you're in the UK. There's lots on alternative therapies on the BBC website:

I am going to try acupuncture starting this Wednesday. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm willing to try anything at this point!

I'm not saying this will be your result, everyone's different, but about a year ago I've had treatment with acupuncture and chinese herbs for a couple months, it restored my periods and since then I've been getting them more or less regularily (not 28 days each time, but around 28-30 days).
