Thumbs up Acupuncture and PCOS

Has anyone tried acupuncture to help with PCOS? I did and found that it worked quite well! There is a great website acubalance .ca that has lots of great information and answer all sorts of questions. I hope that you all can have the same success that I have had.

Please let me know what kind of success that you have had with acupuncture. I am going to start acupuncture for PCOS this week.

Did you have hair loss on your head? If so, did acupuncture help with the hair loss, stop the hair loss and help with new growth of hair?

Did it help with weight loss?

Any information that you could provide me would be great. Do you recall the meridians where they placed the needles? Would you mind sharing the name and number of your acupuncturist so that I may have mine possibly call yours for information.

Thanks so much for your help.

Lindsay

You might also want to run a search on acupuncture in this forum. There are many threads. Also run an additional search on "accupuncture" (with 2 c's)

I saw an acupuncturist frequently for almost a year straight. At first it was weekly, then monthly, now I go whenever I feel like I need a tune-up. On some levels, acupuncture was immediately effective: my anxiety lessened and my weekly migraines became far less frequent. AF finally visited after a few months, but only with some herbal assistance as well. Acupuncture treatment only moves energy around, which is one piece of the puzzle. However, if you are chi deficient like I was, you need herbs to help nourish you back into a state where you have some chi to move! (Chi = life force) This was not an overnight process.

In the long term, I feel that acupuncture helped me peel back some layers of the onion concerning what is going on with me as a whole picture of health. I resolved physical, energetic, mental, emotional, and even some spiritual dilemmas while I went through this process. While it did not "cure" me, I firmly believe that acupuncture/traditional Chinese medicine were instrumental in weaning my body off of BCP and guiding my endocrine and reproductive systems back to health. That being said, some people just don't respond to treatment, and not all acupuncturists were created equal. Do some research and find an acupuncturist that has experience with womens' health. Best of luck!!!

I'm thinking of giving acupuncture a try as well. My chiropractor (who also does acupuncture) recommended a traditional chinese medical physician for me to see. I think I will give her a call today & see what happens..

Hey everyone!

I'm glad to see that some of you have had success for acupuncture. Its great to see that something that has been around for 2000 years is still working today and that we can all get back to the roots of traditional treatment instead of Westernizing everything.

Lagniappe - I didn't ask what the meridians were specifically, but I went to Acubalance Wellness Centre in Vancouver Canada. acubalance. ca is their website, I hope that helps you!

jentn - I always feel a bit wierd about going to someone that isn't a licenced acupuncturist. In BC, the acupuncturists have to be licensed (5 years of schooling) and be registered with their college that they studied at. A few colleges also send them to China to learn in their hospitals. It's amazing how much they study. I know that some naturopaths and Chiros and MD's take 1 course in acupuncture then claim they know how to do it, but it makes me feel uneady. At Acubalance, they've also taken extra courses from experts in fertilty and Chinese medicine around the world (I do my homework....I'm a bit crazy that way)

Good luck to everyone, and I hope to hear more stories about acupuncture!!!

xoxo

I had my first accupuncture appointment last week and am already hooked. My accupuncturist has had successwith PCOS, the last cyster she treated now has a three month old She was so thorough, the stack of forms I had to fill out was insane. And she asked me even more questons besides that. My appointment was an hour and a half long, an hour of it just talking and getting a sense of what I need. The actual inserting of the needles was painless, the needles were so tiny that I forgot some were in until I moved my hand and got a pinch. Some on my hands and feet, knees, ankles, between my eyes and top of my head. I've heard this is pretty standard placement so I'm anxious to see if this will change as things progress.
You know when you're falling asleep and you feel like you're falling so you jerk yourself awake? That's what I felt like after she left the room and I was in there alone, listening to music and relaxing.
I felt so relaxed afterwards, almost like my shoulders and head were heavy, and slept like a baby that night.
I started temping and charting this cycle an my chart was up and down with no set pattern. After my appointment, my temperature has evened out considerably and actually looks how it's supposed to!
I'm very optimistic, hoping it assists with getting pregnant or at least with easing the anxiety of trying to get pregnant.
Good luck everyone!!!

I too have been going to weekly acupuncture sessions since February. I would agree with yoginisara in that I believe it has helped me mostly in my general physical and mental health. Since I started acupuncture, I have definitely lost weight, but I put this down mostly to my improved diet and exercise. But again, the diet and exercise came about due to prompting from my acupuncturist.

I have also taken herbs, which I believe helped me to have my first unmedicated period in over two years this summer. Since then I have been back on BCP, I have done an IUI cycle with injectables, and I am currently in the 2WW of an IVF cycle... I also had acupuncture pre and post embryo transfer.

missfertility - I go to Acubalance too!
