Question Acupuncture Success? Please Help?

Hello Cysters,
Has anyone tried Acupuncture for Infertility or Ovarian Cysts? I have been doing a lot of research and found some very interesting things in regards to this alternative approach. I also learned that my insurance offers reduced rates on acupuncture. Before I jump in and get excited I wanted to know if anyone else had any success???
Thanks a million

Casey Lee

I had acupuncture (first time ever) for three weeks (for unexplained headaches and PCOS) and found myself pregnant! My pregnancy was a complete surprise. Before having the acupuncture I had missed a couple periods probably due to stress (fulltime mommy, fulltime school, part-time business). I hadn't been keeping my usual vitamin and exercise regiment at all. Even stopped taking vinegar before meals, etc... Anyway, I totally recommend the acupuncture.

That's awesome that your insurance offers reduced rates. I went to the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine and saw an intern and instructors. They give great discounts there. Actually, since I am a student I only had to pay $20 per visit. Note: For anyone who doesn't have insurance (or does, but it isn't covered) it might be worth checking for a school in your area.

Casey Lee - I've tried acupuncture for infertility, and I believe it has made a difference for me. I initially went on a friend's recommendation because I was really stressed out and run down (this was a month after my miscarriage). But the acupuncturist was more interested in my cycle and the difficulties I had been having. Anyway, after a couple of months of treatment my cycle went from about 32+ days to 27 days - every month! And AF went from 3-4 days to 6 days. We're still yet to conceive, but my acupuncturist reckons we have a better chance now. Hopefully he's right. So I reckon its worth a shot. Good luck to you.

I'm only two months into acupuncture treatments, but it seems to be doing some good. (I'm currently in the two week wait - fingers crossed.) I feel a lot better about this treatment plan than the one suggested by my RE. The thing I like the best is that the goal is not to conceive so much as it is to make the body healthy so that it may carry a healthy baby to term.

Good luck!

I'm wondering if someone of you who are doing acupuncture can tell me where to the points are for infertility/pcos?
The reason i ask, is that my brother is an acupuncturist and i would really like to try it, but i'm hoping it's not in any um..ur...well, embarrasing spots....if you get my point??

thanks!

Hi Sara! This is really unscientific, but my acupuncturist puts one in the top of my head, several on my ears (ouch!) three on my stomach (one just below the belly button and the other two approx where I think my ovaries would be) and a couple on my legs and or feet. Usually around 16 in total, but he is so quick its hard to count! Totally unembarassing, so worth a go.

Another pro-acupuncture cyster here!

Sara, I would recommend that you find an acupuncturist who has extensive training in fertility and PCOS treatment. While your brother may be a great practitioner, I would say asking him to treat you for infertility/PCOS would be similar to asking a family practitioner to do brain surgery. Or even like asking a heart surgeon to do brain surgery. It's not that they're not good doctors, they just don't have the same training. Perhaps your brother can recommend someone?

My acupuncturist is wonderful - I can't say enough good things about her! I've been seeing her for about a month, and I just feel better overall. I actually O'd last cycle, and had the first AF in over a year that didn't require an estrogen + progesterone "invitation".

I don't know if it was the synthroid that I was put on in late March, the clomid I took in April, the Met that I started about mid-cycle, or the acupuncture that did it, but I had nearly normal 33 day cycle, with *real* blood (red, not brown - sorry TMI), that started full bore rather than chugging along with spotting for several days before and after.

Depending on cycle day, pulses, tongue color, etc., the number of needles and aprticular points that she uses varies - I once counted 16 needles on my tummy alone! I have also had needles on my wrists, feet, and calves. The forehead + ears "cocktail" is very nice, too, for relaxation. The last several sessions, I've actually fallen asleep during the session!

HTH,

Ann

hi--i stopped taking dianette in april and started acupuncture then as well to try to ovulate naturally--i have AF about 2 times a year without BCP. i've just started my second AF right on time, but at this early stage i don't know if it's residual effects of the BCP or acupuncture, but i'm happy and i'll keep you updated if AF continues.
