Default Which AD?

Which AD have you had the most luck with, the least amount of side effects and such?

Also has anyone experienced any weight gain on AD's, because that is something I'm concerned with?

W.E.L.L.B.U.T.R.I.N.

It has been awesome for me. I never gained any weight on it, I didn't have any sexual side effects, and it has helped me maintain my baseline for 3 years and running now.

Good luck. Finding the right AD can be a total b.

I have been on Zoloft(too zombie-like, no sex drive), Wellbutrin(didn't control depression), Serzone(loved it, but carries a black box for kidney/liver damage), and finally Cymbalta. Gotta say that Cymbalta was great, especially if you have any physical pain that goes with it all. But all AD's are different per the person, so keep in mind that your first one may not be the one, or your second, or third. Took me almost four years to find one I could stay on longer than 8 mos. Good luck, and hope you find relief quickly.

I've tried Paxil, Lexapro, and Effexor. I was on Paxil for about 6 years (in my teens) and it helped me so much. I found that after awhile though it just stopped working. My doctor said that that can happen if you are on an AD for a long period of time. She put me on lexapro for a few months and I found it had no effect. I didn't even have any withdraw symptoms when I went off of it! Finally I was put on Effexor XR and I absolutely love it. I think it works better than the Paxil did.

As far as side effects...I've never really experienced any significant ones on any AD I've been on. When I first started I had some very minor issues with not being able to sleep and having too much energy but those went away pretty quickly. The only effects I feel are when I DONT take my medicine. It can be pretty brutal but it is very avoidable if you remember to take your meds as advised.

I've never experienced weight gain on AD, however I generally don't have weight problems. Just brain problems!

I am on Zoloft for the 2nd time in my life and I have to say I really LOVE it. I have no problems with it besides the fact although I have a high sex drive, it's hard to have to big "O". I can deal with that. I had to wait for a bit for DH to get paid so I can get my medicine as I have no insurance, and I was a nasty nasty b*tch. To me and my family not being able to always "O" is fine with me. Every person is different. I am on 50 mgs. My DH's aunt and mom were both on it, 25 mgs, and were like zombies. Each person has to find whats right for them. Good luck

For years now Ive been on a combo of Lexapro and Wellbutrin! I love it! It makes me feel even and helped me get over a horrible bout of social anxiety where I had a hard time leaving the house and going to public places alone! No sexual side effects, and the wellbutrin kills my appetite so I have been able to loose weight on it!

no one antidepressant is going to work for everyone, but there are a lot of good choices out there.

i've done well on cymbalta. (however, i do have anorgasmia as a s/e. it sucks.)

i've also done really well on prozac. prozac tends to be either weight-neutral or cause a modest amount of weight loss.

lexapro didn't do much for me.

wellbutrin was ok and is one of the most weight-neutral a/d's out there.

you might want to try www.crazymeds.us or www.rxlist.com for more detailed drug info. i also think that crazymeds has a user forum for med reviews.

I was on Zoloft for a year. It worked great, then just quit working!
I started taking Prozac but thought it was giving me sexual s/e so I tried Wellbutrin.. That made me realllly mean! So I went back to Prozac and have been on it for almost 7 years.

I have a PRN order for Xanax to deal with occassional anxiety...
