Has anyone had to supplement their bcp with spiro? When I take certain pill (ORtho cyclen) I get great acne and hair help but I feel HORRIBLE. I have felt great taking alesse but the acne and hair become a problem. For some reason, not sure and would love to find out, I feel great on Alesse. It seems to be very balanced as far as estrogen and progestin for me but too androgenic. Is it wise to add spiro. to bcp to counteract the raised androgen issues? I hate the idea of combatting one medication with another but am having a hard time finding a pill I feel good on.
I have been taking ortho tri cyclen lo for 3 months. My skin is good and hair is improving but I have that just pregnant feel I get on Mircette. I am wondering if the progestin strength is too high since the estrogen has dropped in this one. None of the online references has ortho lo listed since its pretty new. Does anyone tking it have common concerns (i.e. bloated belly, cramping, water retention)? If so please respond to my post as I'm running out of ideas and my RE is too I think, although she hasn't said.

It's not unusual or risky to combine bc pills with spironolactone. That has been the only way to manage PCOS for years (until they learned about Metformin and other newer treatments), and was my longterm treatment throught my teen years.

Thank you Kerri! I am wondering if it is still o.k. to combine spiro. with a pill that some say has more androgenic properties than others. I seem to only do well with alesse, minus the acne and hair growth. It is still better on alesse than when off but not as good as with other pills. The problem is I don't do well on anything else now. Does anyone take spiro. with alesse, loestrin, or lo ovral? My free roaming test. hs come down well on the alesse but I still have the androgen issues coming from somewhere. Thanks to anyone who can help!!!

I personally was on Ovral and Lo-Ovral (same ingredients, lower dosage) while on spironolactone. It worked fine, but usually takes at least 3-6 months to see results.
