My husband and I are thinking about adoption. I want a child so much. And a couple people have told me about stories of woman who were having a hard time conceiving and after adopting found out they were pregnant. I was wondering if thats true for any of you.

Points: 3,653.44 Bank: 8,107.03 Total Points: 11,760.47 | It Happened to us! We tried for seven years to get pregnant. We did every fertility tretment under the sun with the exception of IVF ( I didn't want to go through that) nothing worked. We adopted our beautiful baby boy in 2000. His story is a special one. He was born so early we didn't have or adoption process started yet and came at 26 weeks. he is a healthy almost eight year old boy today!!! When he turned 3 I told my Hubby that I wantd him to have a sibling so we should start the process becausse I knew that it wouldn't be as easy the second time. I had been feeling tired, a little queasy but didn't think much of it. I remeber going to the bathroom and looking in the cupboard to see if I had a test ( I had taken a million surely there had to be one in there) I did it not even worrying or thinking about it. went back and looked and it was a BIG FAT POSITIVE. I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl too early due to IC but have since had 2 other babies. So it can happen it did for us 3 times. BTW~ I had started WW and dropped 20lbs, That must have done the trick because I started having regular cycles and ovulating on my own with no meds!! Good luck to you and God Bless

That being said, we adopted our DS1 after 2 1/2 years of TTC (1 1/2 with treatments). When he was about 6-7 months old I joined WW b/c I didn't want to be the "fat mom". I had lost 50 lbs and DH and I were talking about starting the process again when I said that I wanted to try again, nothing too major, just Clomid for a couple of months. We got pg the 2nd month, but m/c VERY early (we wouldn't ave even known had we not been TTC). We waited a month to TTC again and got pg the first month trying again. We were on 100 mg of Clomid. Even with the weightloss I NEVER o'd on my own or had ANY cycles without Clomid or Provera (and I was at 130lbs when I was done). I do believe though that the weightloss helped the meds to work for us.
I do not think that this is what you are doing, but I do need to say this... do not go into adoption thinking that it will work out that way. I am SO thankful for my son and for his first family and love them all so VERY much. I truly believe that we were meant to go through that process and our DS is perfectly made for our family. I can wholeheartedly say that if we had never conceived a biological child we wouldn't have missed out on a thing.
I adoption!
Pam

In my opinion i believe its because -- (a) your probably not worried about getting pregnant when you adopt one of your own, because your too worried about learning about the child you've adopted and trying to take care of solely this child. Most woman have a hard time getting pregnant because they are stressed out... i know this is probably one of the reasons why i have such a hard time getting pregnant, i worry about every little thing, and i have alot of stress in my life.. especially from my MIL, and my husbands side of the family.. I'd say, if your wanted to adopt.. go for it.. if your worried about concieving after you've adopted.. i don't know what to say.. i'd say it would be an amazing thing to have one adopted child and one natrual child. there are many children out there in the world who are sitting in a foster home, or child care facility who have either been dumped by their parents, or abandoned. I would say go for it.. if you have a baby after you've adopted.. you'll just have that much more to be thankful for.

My Mood: Points: 25,384.41 Bank: 0.05 Total Points: 25,384.46 | My best friend has tried for the past 5 years to have their 4th child. (the previous 3 were conceived on at least clomid) She didn't want to try with drugs, letting God set their course. They began, and are still in the process of adopting a foster to adopt child, and are now 20 wks. pregnant. She has PCOS, IR, and is completely (or so she thought) anovular.

We were married 12 years before ds came alone. And I know there were many years in there that we were not "trying" so I was not stressed about getting PG, but I never did.
I believe that God works in ways that we will never know. Some people are meant to adopt a child before having bio ones. For what ever reason.
Don't adopt just because you hope that it will help you get pg. Adopted because you want to get a child the best you can.
That said, I know a women who tried for years with her then DH and then adopted. They divorced and they both went on to have a few bio children.

I believe God wanted them to adopt David, and then blessed them with the baby that they had wanted. What a WONDERFUL thing!
BTW, Miss-Meme, your son is so cute!

They adopted an 18 monthold with mild CP. my coworker was instantly in love...and pregnant 2 months later. she was very upset. she no longer wanted to be pregnant and was content with her adopted son. even now that the kids are 9 and 8 she definately favors the adopted son and almost has resents her bio son. its sad and im sure not typical. she is very uofront with evreyone about her story and how she didn't even want to be pregnant again. all she does is complain about her over-hyper bio son.
