Adopting from DCF/DSS questions ????????

We are in the process of trying to adopt a sibling group from Tennessee. We live in Southern Indiana.

We have sent our homestudy, letters to the caseworker and children, pictures and several brochures about the area we live. Now the caseworker has asked for a video. Oh, we have also emailed her back and forth several times. My question is did you have to do a video and what did you put on it? Is it even worth trying for these children who are two states away? We are frustrated and at a loss. We have had so many promising leads that ended up that the kids were already adopted or a family member stepped up. These kids are healthy, smart and just what we are looking for. No major issues and for kids in the system that is amazing. I don't want to sound lazy but we just don't want to get our hopes up and do all of this to just be told your from the wrong state.

Is there anyone who can give me some incite?

Should we stick to our state only?

Sorry, we were just hoping and praying the last email would be more positive. The selection committee will meet sometime after the 24th of January. That is when they need the video.

i am sorry i dont have any advice for you, i think i would do the stupid video, invite all your family and friends over for dinner and film everyone, while showcasing your home/yard, and bedrooms thats what i would do???

I would do the video too! It's worth a shot!

I agree with Lisa, showcase your home, family, and maybe even a little something about why you want to adopt.

I am guessing because the social worker hasn't met you she wants to get a better feel of you.

You are probably one of many people inquiring about this sibling group, and they need the video to compare prospective families.

I agree, I would do the video. It may be part of the "weeding out" process (I mean, if you don't want to do the video, perhaps you're not as serious as you think you are...is what it might put in the caseworker's head)

Even with sibling groups, if there aren't many "noted" problems with the children, then they are in high demand.

Please consider, however, no matter how "normal" they are, they could very well need professional counseling and transition time because of the life altering event of adoption.

I would gather your family and friends...anyone who is going to be in the family and social circle...I would have friends and family share why they want you all to have the kids and how great of parents you would be, and then you and your partner should each explain why you want a child(ren).

The caseworker for the kids is fantastic. She sent us a very long email explaining why she wants the video.

She pulled our homestudy again and read over everything and let us know that we are definitely in the running. She has decided to request videos from all prospective parents for her "kids" just to get more info. She gave us an out if we didn't want to do the video.

We just didn't know what she was looking for and she did let us know a few things we can do. We have a very close deadline, she wants the video on Monday...UGH!!!

She told us to have fun with it and let our personalities show. So that's what we are going to do.

Thanks to all of you we felt a little better knowing we weren't the only ones to question the video but we really do think these children would be a match for us. WE have studied their picture and read each of their descriptions over and over.

So say some prayers for us and hopefully in about a week or two we will know if we are going to be parents. Almost like the 2ww. hehe.
