Unhappy Adopting In Florida

My husband and I are waiting to adopt in FL from the Children's Home Society. We have tried so hard to be optimistic , but every time we turn around, we hit a wall. Our homestudy was complete in Oct, and we have been on a "waiting list" that really doesn't exist. We are open to adoptng an infant to age 4, Hispanic, caucasian or biracial. We have never received a call. Every bit of contact that has been made w/ CHS has been by us.
Now, were hearing from people locally, that you have to know someone. Two people in the last 2 weeks have told us that they knew someone and got an infant. It's very sad and discouraging.

I saw two little girls last week on the state web site, called my case worker and she called back on Monday. She has no info on these girls. Finally, I get some info that the girls' caseworker is out becuase of a death in her family. No one can access the info on these girls. But, there have been dozens of calls on them. It took everything that I had not to sit at my desk and cry. My biggest questions is: If we are approved for an infant to 4 years old and up to 2 sibling, why did we not get the call? Why are they posted in a website? My case worker says that she doesn't know.

It's very sad and very discouraging. Has anyone adopted through CHS Florida? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for letting me vent!
Laure

Sorry you have to go thru this

Unfortunately what I have learned about any 'state' or in our case 'province' adoptions is that generally the workloads are too large for the workers and the kids get too shuffled around.

Sounds like you are open for alot more than most people though so hopefully someone will get their crap together and help you !

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. From what I've heard about the state adoption process is you have to do a ton of legwork and keep your file under your social worker's nose. And you may have to do a lot of hunting and inquiring about children.

Is there a reason why you have to stay with CHS? Maybe put your file out to other agencies in Florida, like Catholic Charities.

Is CHS part of DCF?

Hope you get the call soon.
