I'm doing straight adoption from foster care. We considering doing foster/adopt but we met several people who did this and said that if we're in i to adopt then just adopt. So that's what we're doing.

With adopting through forster care do you say an age group that you want, like birth trough 2 years? We thought about going through the foster system and be a promise home. Which is where they will only give us a child that "most probably" able to be adopted. After talking with the social worker more about that and were told that FC is about reuniting children with their family my dh said that he did not think I could handle having a child for a year thinking it was ours and at the last minute having it go back with family. He is right. I think that after we get our first child I would like to go that route though. I guess we will see. It is interesting to hear how different states foster systems work. I would love to hear how things progress with you. Please keep in touch.

You can specifiy that but with children that young most of them have not been TPR from their parents. It is a great risk that you are taking on if you are in the hopes of adoption. I know many ppl that have adopted their baby through the foster care but on the other side I know many more that have their hearts broken more times than they'd like...I have great respect for ppl that can do foster to adopt...
That's why we're doing straight adoption and not foster to adopt. In our state, children can be legally free, which means that they're wards of the state, or orphans. Those are the children we're looking at adopting. No parent or relative to come in and take them at the last minute. All rights have been severed so they're legally free to be adopted. Right now we're looking at a sibling group of four kids, ages 8-4 years old. As soon as our home study is done, we're submitting for this sibling group and we'll see what happens!

Hi ladies,
Wanted to know if I could join this thread.
I am in the middle of the adoption process. DH and I were officially approved today! Thought I could go through the adoption experience with you.
=)

Congrats, Wanting! How old of a child are you looking to adopt? Although DH and I were looking at a sibling group, ages 4-8, we're still open to any amount of kids ages 0-8. Good luck!

Thanks ladies! We are very excited. We are doing a domestic semi-open adoption and are hoping for a newborn. We requested 1 year or younger, but are open to discuss that if an opportunity arises. Now we have to see how long this takes. I know the waiting is the hard part. I currently have 8 different friends/family members that are pregnant, so it is very bitter-sweet for me right now. Just want it to be my turn already. And we haven't told many people about this so I have all this excitement and joy I want to share but just can't. I have to sit and just listen about everyone's pregnancies. Glad I found this thread where I can spill all this good news! Thank you ladies. Now please tell me about all of your good news as well!
