Hello,

My DH and I have decided after a very long 6 years that we are ready to begin the process of adoption.

I am completely unsure of where to start, who to contact, what to do!

Wondering if anyone has adopted, either domestically or internationally, in Ontario, and what the starting point is.

I need some direction...

where in Ontario are you?
did you phone cfs? or there are private adoption lawyers that you can call as well.....
I am in St.Thomas - We adopted my nephew after having custody of him for 4 years - we started adoption proceedings last summer and after almost a year the adoption was granted this past july......now my situation took long only because my sister was playing arouned - in the end because we could not get in touch with her the judge granted the adoption without her consent - there is lots of paperwork and financial statements needed - I would start that part now - the most they need is pay stubs showing income and the last three years of income tax so if you do not have them I would get them now so that saves some time..........

I am in Ontario and have adopted once from Ukraine and we are leaving on Friday to adopt from China.

You have to start by deciding where/how you want to adopt. Private domestic, CAS domestic or international (and if you pick international which country)

Its alot of info to take in. I can answer any questions you may have hopefully but will be out of country for 2 weeks so you may have to have some patience

Sounds like Shelley has some good info on private adoption too.

I started the process in Ontario twice. Once privately and the other time it was a public adoption(through CAS) Both times it fell through due to unfortunate circumstances. Now I am in B.C giving it yet another try.
I found that this Canadian adoption site very helpful & informative to teach me what I wanted to know.
