(Quote: by Calantha) They do adoptions in China, India, Colombia and Russia. I believe they've put a hold on accepting new applications for the Guatemala program until the whole mess in Guatemala is straightened out. Also, I think Vietnam is currently closed for adoptions, but CHI plans to continue them when it reopens.

They have offices throughout the country.

I highly recommend the Colombia program, and the Portland office, which is in charge of the Colombia program. I'd recommend the Chicago office but only for China adoptions. The lady who runs it has adopted children from China and is familiar with the process, however she's not very familiar with the process for other countries. She is a very nice lady and tries to be helpful, but it seems best to stick with your program coordinator so you know you're getting accurate information. (End Quote)

Thank you Calantha

Check out www.ShaohannahsHope.com

Steven Curtis Chapman ( a christian muscian) and his wife Mary Beth have started this organization to spread the word about the need for adoption. The website has many resources as well as grant opportunities to aid christian families in their desire to adopt. Thanks Lisa

Here's a few links that I have bookmarked on my computer that I found very useful:

Karen's Adoption Links -- lots of great info on a variety of topics at this site! I like the products section!
http://www.karensadoptionlinks.com/

The Orphan Doctor (aka Jane Aronson) a specialist in interpreting medicals for international adopters and in treating problems that orphans often have. I heard her speak and she is great... there are many others like her out there though!
http://www.orphandoctor.com/

Selecting An Agency For International Adoption -- A GREAT list of questions to ask before selecting an agency! I based my list of 12 essential questions on this list!
http://www.adopting.org/choosagn.html

Adoption Scrapbook and Lifebook Supplies -- an essential site for those of us who are scrap-a-holics!
http://www.scrapandtell.com/AdoptionStuff.htm

Hope these help :-)

NancyVerrier.com

Nancy is a counselor and author. She deals with the complex issues unique to adoption that adoptive parents will encounter. As an adoptee, I only with that my parents had been armed with Nancy's knowledge when they were raising me. I think adoption is only responsible choice if perspective parents are willing to look at how the adoptee will be affected by it emotionally. When parents do this, adoption is/can be a tremendous gift and blessing. When they do not, the child is simply caught up in the parent's agenda and his/her rights and needs become a side issue, or worse yet, a non issue.
So many couples, frustrated by their inability to conceive, turn to adoption out of their need/desire to have a child. That is understandable, but the adioted child will have needs of his/her own, some of them will be unique and different from a those of a biological child. When parents are caugt unaware by an adopted child's behavior, their reactions usually serve to make the child feel defective when in fact they are acting normally for someone in the adoptee position.

Thanks,

I'm currently go through

www.antiocadoptions.org

They pay out most of the cost. All that I'm having to pay for is... $175 for my classes and this is for room and board and food. (they put the 36hrs of classes into a 3 day weekend retreat.) For my lawyer, and for cpr/firstaid class. There are other classes we have to take but I've been able to get for free pretty much. Like a baby basics class, and I dont remember the names of the rest of them.

The only down side is they are only in western washington in Redmond. And they will only go a few hours away at this point, they are hoping to exand into the rest of washington and then out to other states!

Best of luck to all!
