Is it just me or is there an entire area that companies are missing out on? There are baby books everywhere you look but hardly any adoption books!
I created ours myself b/c I couldn't find anything that I liked. I've been thinking of creating them for others as well b/c I couldn't find anything that I wanted when I was looking.
So here's my question: Am I just not looking in the right places for these or are there really hardly any out there & is there really an interest in adoption scrapbooks/lifebooks? I know that baby books didn't fit our situation at all. We even have an adoption baby book that was premade but it's more for a domestic adoption where you know birth parents. We didn't know our DD's birth family & we met her when she was almost 11 months old so we couldn't even use the first 10 months of pages to put photos & milestones...the book is pretty useless for us since we can only fill it out 1/2 way!
My idea is to create custom made scrapbooks/lifebooks where ppl can just slide their photos in (don't even have to use glue!) & write descriptions (I could even write them in if the wording was given), everything else would be done. So does my idea sound off the wall or a good idea? I'm very unsure of it b/c of the economy though but I know ppl still need to document for their children so it's a catch-22 for me!

There is a lot of demand for things like that. I am actually a birthmother, and I make adoption themed scrapbooks. I haven't really made anything lately, but I used to sell stuff on ebay, and there was a lot of demand for it. I also did a lot of stuff by word of mouth. One adoptive mother found me and wanted an album and then all of her friends wanted one too...it spread through several message boards/groups. I tried not to make any two the same...I preferred to have the pictures and then build the albums around them, although I did make some standard layouts to sell on ebay that people could just put their pictures in. That's the stuff that I did for adoptive families. My real passion was to make albums for birthmothers especially "my birthmother and me" layouts and albums because there is literally NOTHING out there for us. I've said all of this to say that you will definitely have a demand and I think you should go for it. I've slacked off because my daughter is now going to school in another town and I spend 3 hours a day driving her back and forth...I just don't have the time...I really miss it.
I have thought the same thing too! We made out adoption book online and had it printed. our baby book...or more or less is book of my ds's 1st year includes the parts of the adoption...but I wanted something for him that just shows the adoption.
I'd thought about doing some as well...there's def. a nitch there for it!

Well...it is one of the scrapbooks that is on Walmart.com photo center. I took their cookie cutter, did my photos and such and had it printed into a book. It's really nice...not called an adoption book...but it's my adoption book...if that makes any sense...lol...
Makes total sense. I've seen them from other companies, didn't realize Walmart did them too!
Thanks!

Hallmark has some books that are sutable for adoption as they have/had an extra set of pages specifically for adoption. It is worth a look.

I think if Hallmark got in on the idea they'd make a ton of money.

There are a few sites where you can make adoption books now. They will write the text for you or you can write it and give pictures and they format it for you. I'm planning to use Blurb books and pulling everything from my blog, which chronicled the adoption, and turn it into a book for her. Then I'll probably do a separate one that is more lifebook style utilizing one of the online sites. Adoptive Families magazine profiled different options in last month's issue or the month before.
