I was chatting with someone the other day and they mentioned that there state only charges $50 to adopt. OK....since then I have forgotten who I was chatting with and would like to know what state that was. I hate to put a price on a child..but if you have no money and want to adopt this sounds pretty good. So help if you could. Thanks

I live in Ohio, and there is no fee to the agency (provided you are adopting through Social Services) however, you still should have a lawyer so that you make sure you get all of the benefits the child is entitled to. For a hard to place child the state will reimburse you up to $3000 for lawyers fees. Hard to place would include an ethnic group that was hard to find in your city, sibling groups or a child over the age of 6 (as well as any child with a mental or physical handicap).
Hope that helped!

Hi ladies,
I have two children I adopted through our state (New Jersey) Social Services. The only cost to us was gas for traveling to see them on visits before they were placed with us. I also paid about 7.00 to get extra copies of birth certificate to be certified. We too just could not afford thousands of dollars to adopt yet we yearned to be a family. I adopted my son when he was 11 and he is now a thriving 14 year old boy. My daughter is 4 and will be nearly 5 when her adoption is finalized. We also receive a monthly subsidy check for them since they are considered "special" children. My son was adopted older and being treated for sexual abuse. My daughter is being treated for sexual abuse. I looked past those things and have the family I always hoped for. Now we are trying to have one naturally since we learn the glucophage is helping me ovulate.

Hi,
I adopted with a Christian Agency in VA and the cost was 15% of your combined annual gross income with a cap of $15K.
You had to pay separate fees to attorney for finalization and that ran from $1000 and up, but my husband and I went to a law library, read up on the procedures and finalized it ourselves. It's really just paperwork. Fees vary immensely though just from agency to agency. If you adopt through the state, I understand it is significantly lower but chances of getting a newborn are slim. There is a new website sponsored by US Gov. called adoptuskids.com
Sugarbug...thanks for the correction...i just spaced it off. I am not usually like that. Ok...so now I know what state to chose just how to start. I am giving this whole thing a second look...DO i really want to do this? UGHHHH
