Hi Claire,
I'm not from Sydney, but had lots of experience with electrolysis. I went through 10 years or more of electrolysis, this was in the days before PCOS was widely known about. I can tell you that it made no difference to me, but I persevered because I lived in hope. (I hate to think of the money I lost on it--$20 a fortnight for ten years, and before that the tweezer method for almost 2 years). As you may have gathered, I wasn’t happy with the (lack of) results. I waxed for many years after that, and after the birth of my first son, I went on Aldactone. Within three months I saw a big difference, at almost a year I was feeling normal.
At this stage I stopped it because I went back on the ovulation induction program to fall pregnant (and you must NOT take Aldactone while TTC) but straight after the birth of my twins I went on Aldactone and have been on it ever since. (They're 13 now) I feel *normal* and am thrilled with not having to worry about hair on my chin, upper lip, cheeks, sideburns, upper arms, belly, back and backside. You name it, I had it there.
I believe that electrolysis and laser won't work for cysters like us because we still have the Testosterone that causes the extra hair. To get rid of the hair, you need to treat the cause of the hair and that's the hormone testosterone. There are other drugs, but Aldactone works great for me. The other great side effect is that I have GREAT skin for a woman of 46. EVERYONE comments on it.
Good luck in whatever you choose.
