Default Advice for gaining weight

Hello ladies--

I am currently about 7 pounds underweight (meaning my BMI is in the underweight part of the chart)and if one more person says "you are going to blow away" I swear to god I will punch him or her! I lost this weight due to an illness some time ago and I have gained back only 3 of the 10 pounds I lost. I have always been thin, but this is the first time I have been this underweight.

I know a lot of cysters are dealing with the flip side of this problem, but if anyone can suggest a book, article, menu plan or something like that I would really appreciate it. I know I am supposed to increase my caloric intake by 300-500 calories a day, but short of eating 10 times a day I am not sure how to do this.

Thanks,
Branwen

Hi

I also had to gain a few pounds, but I have to say, I found it very easy, which is strange because I'd never felt like I was limiting myself before. You could just add a couple of scoops of ice cream to your desert or eat a large chocolate bar a day, which is no hardship.

If you know anything about fat content of food you know the choices to make e.g. choose a cheese sandwich over a chicken one....add colsalaw. 300-500 calories a day is not alot.
Good luck and enjoy.

Thanks for your reply, Pinkfish. I have been trying to choose foods that will provide me with more fat and calories. It just appears that it isn't making much difference. I am hungrier later in the day than I am in the morning, and you would think that eating foods laden with more calories and more fat would add weight if you are eating them later in the day.

I am very frustrated. I am already eating 3 larger meals with 3 smaller snack-like meals in-between. I am beginning to think I have some kind of underlying condition that is making it difficult for me to gain, but I am not sure what it could be. My thyroid levels were fine according to my last blood test, and I don't think diabetes (which can cause unexplained weight loss) is an issue either.

Well, thanks again and have a great day--
Branwen
