Question Advice Needed

Hello to my fellow cysters out there!

I suffer from depression and recently was on prozac. I went off of it in October and now here it is February and I am back to being depressed - however this time I am REALLY depressed - more so than usual. I am not even having an appetite with this bout of depression. And I know something is wrong if I don't want to eat as I love to eat.

I did have a good experience with prozac (mood wise) when I was on it, but I found that it made me really sweaty, that is one of the main reasons (aside from feeling better and thinking I could do it on my own) that I came off of it.

I went to see my family doctor today to tell him how I was feeling and he was a bit perturbed as he never wanted me to go off the prozac in the first place. I expressed my concerns to him about sweating alot on prozac (I find I am already sweaty enough with the pcos let alone with the pcos AND prozac) so he wants me to do some research and make another appointment with him before the month is up to discuss putting me on an alternative to prozac.

Can anyone who takes or has taken anti-depressants (long term) please share their personal experience with me and let me know what anti-depressant(s) they took that had a successful result in elevating their moods, and what the side effects were? That way I can do a search. I'd also like to find an anti-depressant that doesn't promote weight gain as I am already a plus sized cyster.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and please, if you have any information, please post.

*hugs*

I have been on ZOLOFT for over a year now and feel great...... no depression except for what normal people might get depressed about but not the severe bouts that I had before....... no anxiety attacks........... it did not make me gain weight....... really no side effects at all for me....... I have been on just about every antidepressant out there and this is the only one that worked that didn't give me severe side effects........... hope this helps.....

Best of luck,
TERRA

Default Wellbutrin

I believe the Wellbutrin is also known as an antidepressant that doesn't promote weight gain. I actually lost 5 lbs. when I took it. It doesn't work as well as Prozac for a lot of people, however. I had to change becasue it wasn't working well enough for me. Good luck!

I have a few friends who have started taking Lexapro (or something like) that. I think it is a relatively new anti-depressant. I have heard that it is wonderful and I know that it is helping my friends tremendously.

God Bless,

Welbutrin is actually an energizer, so if you're sluggish it might be a good answer. It does not put on weight and generally does not have any sexual side effects either. But, it can also keep you from sleeping, so take it in the morning and early evening if you have to take 2. I have use many of them and am now on Celexa. It works pretty well. Lexapro made me really sleepy. Good luck. Each of our bodies seem to react very differently and you may just have to try different one. Hope it works out for you soon. Lendi

I did not like how I felt when I was on a combo of Klonopin, Zoloft and Wellbutrin for panic/depression. The combo made me feel like Zombie. After I weaned myself off thr Klonopin and Zoloft, I switched my Wellbutrin to the SR version and I felt a lot better. That being said, different things work for different people.

However, I have recently stopped the Wellbutrin as well as we are thinking about ttc sometime in the future and my RE suggested that it would not be good to take while ttc- or while in the early stages of pg.
