I've got an appointment tomorrow with my GP to discuss my PCOS. I've been on 1000mg Met for around a year and have lost around 2 stone overall (which is lovely!). However, none of my other symptoms have stopped. I'm still hairy like Chewy and I have had not one period in this time. In addition the Met has made me lose lots of hair (it's an attractive look, trust me).
We are TTC'ing but without a period, it makes it hard. Should I ask if we can step things up with Clomid/ Progestrone cream etc etc? I'm so bloody clueless I don't know what I need!
My doctor is wondeful but is learning most of his PCOS stuff from me! I could take a couple of books in for him, but I am well confused!
Any suggestions would be greatly appricated.

Was on 1000mg of Gluc XR +vitex pre natal vitamins but stop taking in 2006 as it was doing nothing for me.
High Blood Pressure and now on drugs for this.

I would ask if you can up your dose of metformin, and have clomid too. I have never found a doctor here willing to give progesterone cream... in fact, the ones I asked about it didnt even know what I was talking about. Some people take provera to bring on a period so then they can take clomid.
In fact, I would just get your GP to refer you to a gyne or endo as they will know more.

Using info in her books, I went down an alternative route. Lost 3 stone (and no hair - in fact, my hair's as thick as when I was in my 20s and I'm 45!) and am marginally less like Rolf Harris to look at, although I suspect that's the weight loss, not my herbal pills and potions.
As well as the weight loss, I went from having one period a year (if lucky) to one every 5 weeks. Purely through losing the weight and using various herbal remedies.
I've never met many GPs who had any time for alternative medicine and that's the problem. Apart from a (female) GP I had years ago, who told me to try Vitamin E and Evening Primrose Oil when my hair kept falling out after I had my first baby - and it did work. She's the only one who ever recommended using alternatives.
They're kinder on your body, that's for sure. I'd speak to the GP but if you decide to come off Met, find a qualified herbalist who can help you, maybe, and try different things as if one thing doesn't work - another might.

Could you suggest your dr send you to an endo/ or gynae? I recommened my gp to come and visit sc.

Well today went very well. My dr is uping my dosage to 2000! which I think is a hell of a lot (got my wig waiting for that one). He is also refering me to a really good specialist in Southampton (although I live next to the hospital in portsmouth, I had a really nasty experince with their fertility specalist a few years ago). So at least that is something!

im glad today went well for you! maybe the hospital will put you on clomid! ive been to hospital today and theyve doubled my dose of met 1000mg to 2000mg oh god so bring on the side effects again!
