Default Advise needed again please

Hi folks,

Well I got my thyroid results in the TSH was 2.75, I still have all the symptoms feeling cold, hair loss, periods erratic, hot flushes and I know in the past I have been very borderline - 5.8, 6.0.

What I was wondering was my doctor put me on the BCP about 2 months ago for the hot flushes and period problems, could the pill affect my result at all ??

Thanks again

Cara

Sorry, Cara, I don't know, but I thought I'd give this a bump for you!

The pill will definitely skew your result. The pill contains estrogen, which binds to thyroid hormone. This has a double effect. It makes the hormone unavailable to the body, so your body kicks into gear and the thyroid starts producing more output. I for one, got slightly hyper while on the pill, although off it I am definitely hypo.

It is likely your TD is autoimmune, which would explain this. The increased activity of your thyroid is causing an increased antibody count, which is making you feel sicker. Have your doc. check antibodies instead of TSH next time.
