Hi all
I'm so glad I found this site as at least I can talk to people about this without people thinking I'm obsessed about having PCOS. I'm looking for advice and hope I don't bore any of you too much...
I was diagnosed with pcos at 21 (9 years ago) and since then have been on the pill to ensure I have regular periods. I lost about 15 kg at the time but as time went on I gained it all back. About 2 years ago, on a routine checkup, my gynae told me that my insulin levels were high (12) and that if I wanted I could go on Metformin but that I should rather wait as I did not want to have kids at the time and that I should perhaps try to get my insulin down through losing some weight first. Alas, I waited about a year before doing anything. Then my hubby and I decided that we would like to start a family but knowing the weightloss thing I went to a dietician first and 3 months since seeing her I've lost 7 kgs and my insulin is now at 10.
I'm looking for advice on what to do next. I'm going to continue on the diet with the intention of losing about another 7 kgs and getting my insulin down to about 8 - should I continue taking the pill or rather start trying to conceive at this point already. I'm quite scared of coming off now as I know it could take a LONG time to fall preggers and I don't want to become despondent. Or should I carry on and rather, achieve the insulin and weight goal, and then go all out to try and conceive - even if it required gynae meds, shots etc.
Anyone been in these shoes before?
