Default AF back w/ a vengeance?

I was dx'ed w/ PCOS at the age of 14 (now 30). I've had abnormal periods since I was about 25 or so. I typically have 4-6 a year (I'm fat too, 300+ lbs). In Dec '07 I started taking Metformin ER, but it was just increased to 2000 mg in June '08.

I started my period on June 15th and didn't stop until July 14th. I went to my Dr. about 2 weeks into the period because it was still so heavy. They did an ultrasound and endometrial biopsy. The US showed the lining to be "too thick" but the biopsy was normal. I started my period again on July 19th (so I only stopped bleeding for 5 days).

Any thoughts on this? Think it could be the metformin? They can't see me again until Aug 5th, so I won't really know anything for awhile but would love some input from yall!

Thanks,
Amanda

I took Metformin for 2 months last year. When the dr prescribed I had 45-48 day cycle. When AF came those two months, it was soo painful and heavy both months. I stopped taking the Metformin because of it. The next cycle was back to normal and continued that way for 7 months.

Wow, I can totally relate. I have been on and off metformin and diets in the last year and I am also in the same weight range. I have always considered myself lucky to get a period because I usually don't. Metformin never seemed to do anything for me, but it's possible I just didn't take it long enough, I think the longest round I took was about two months. Dieting on the other hand, I will almost always get a period a few days after starting a diet. Anyway, I got a period last month after starting a diet and had a 26 day cycle and got a second period on July 2nd...and it's still going!!!

I am not financially able to see a doctor at the moment and because I have had pretty much no pain or cramping, I have just not been all that concerned about it because I am having no cramping or pain. I just wish it would go away already.

I had the same thing happen a few months ago. I had raging periods - that lasted 2-3 weeks and would get it again 2 weeks later. I would soak thru the heaviest tampons and pads in 1 hour. It was awful! Anyway, I too had an endo biopsy that came back normal. No fibroids either. My RE put me on the NuvaRing much to my dismay. That lasted 2 cycles - I hate BC!!! I hate synthetic hormones! My cycles finally ended after about 2-3 months of that craziness and now I just had to take NPC to start a new cycle. Weird. Hopefully yours will subside too.
