Question AF on Metformin only..

Not sure whether this is the right place to ask this but here goes.. I'm 20, diagnosed with PCOS about a year ago. Had clockwork AF cycle from age 11-16, when things started going wrong. Was finally diagnosed last year, went on Metformin first (started and stayed on 1000mg a day) and then started taking Diane to regulate my cycle (and lost 40+ pounds in the process, and managed to get my HbA1C down to 5!). I had to come off the Diane after a gallbladder problem in March and have had 2 AF's since in April and May, although I haven't counted the days of each cycle (I figured I'd be back to no cycle so didn't bother..) from my own calculations I seem to have a perfect cycle still.. Is it likely that this will continue? If I'm having a regular AF does that mean I'm O'ing too? I seem to have varying levels of CM, which I never had before I was diagnosed/treated. I feel much better in myself since quitting Diane and would love to stay off it for good.. any of you have a regular cycle just from the Metformin? is it normal to have perfect cycles with Metformin for a while after coming off BCPs? I'd hate to go back to having no cycle.. And after so long without, wouldn't want to suddenly find I'm unexpectedly O'ing either (not TTC)..

All I can say is that there is a warning on met that says that it increases the chances of becomeing pregnant so I would have to say that you need to be careful if you arent TTC.

Cycles depend on so many things...stress, sleep, diet, exercise. With met combined with diet that controls my insulin and exercise, I have 28-32 day cycles like clockwork with no meds besides the metformin.

There are no guarantees, but do what you can lifestyle-wise and you give yourself a better shot of staying regular.

Hope it helps!

Why don't you try another method of birth control since you're not TTC? I too do not want to be on any kind of BCP, so we use Ortho Options (spermicide gel inserts). Anytime you're having AF, you could be O'ing (esp. if she's regular).
