If your GYNO does not do a blood count on you (CBC) and Iron levels then you need to go to your PCP and ask for one.
And yes I have had my period for that long and even longer. I've had 5 seperate times of being admitted for emergency blood transfusions and d&c's due to the excessive bleeding and it's because the doctors wait to long or I have a hard time finding one that believes me that I am bleeding that long to actually do a the lab work! I would actually go through the pads every 30min/1hr. (thankfully my PCP believes me now, and my current OBGYN is fully supportive of me and believes me seeing how the first time we met was in the ER of a hospital that I do not work at and saw on the labwork that I had lost over half of my blood.)
Don't just lay around and bleed, do not let these doctors do that to you! Do not get to the point where you are going through pads by the hour to two hours drenched! the Number 1 reason why doctors don't do anything about it cause women have tendencies of replacing their blood faster than men cause we are built to lose blood monthly, and in any human is replaced every 120 days. Sometimes continous blood loss that is steady over a period time can drop your blood count and that's not good, you can become very severly anemic. This is not good for your heart either, your heart is having to work extra hard to pump what blood you have out to your body. You NEED to get a nice electronic blood pressure cuff so you can keep an eye out on your vital signs. If your heart rate stays above 100 and your blood pressure is below normal ranges then you need to get checked out immedietaly cause that's one of the signs of too much of a blood loss.
Now I will warn you, doctors are not willing to admit patients for blood transfusions. Sometimes doctors can give you some hormones to stop the bleeding, some will do ultrasound and check out the lining of the uterus and see if you need a D&C or if you have uterine fibroids (which can be serious.) and in my case these hormones are no longer effective in me and which is why I get the blood transfusions and D&C's.
So please get checked out. do something about it before it gets way out of hand.
