Default AF Question about Yasmin

Okay, I know that part of this is my fault. I went to renew my prescription for Yasmin Friday night. I didn't realize that I had no refills left (I don't look at the box every day.) Anyway, I called my doctor on call and asked them to just okay one pack for me so my AF would STOP. I didn't hear back from them, so I figured that they'd called it in to my pharmacy. Last night, I went over to CVS and the pharmacist was very snippy with me. "Well you know, that most doctors don't consider running out of birth control pills to be an emergency over the weekend." My question is, will my AF stop on my own, or will it need the active pill to get it to go away again. Also, the pharmacist said I could take more than one pill at once to sort of make up for what I missed. Is this doable or will it screw me up even more? Don't they realize that this IS an emergency for someone with PCOS???

Angry

If I were you, I'd FIRE that pharmacy for treating you that way! What a stupid pharmacist, to not know that bcp's are medically necessary for some people! Argh. Sorry, but that really irks me. You should at least complain to that guy's supervisor.

I just realized that you posted earlier this week, so you probably already have this figured out. But, you will probably need an active pill to make AF go away. I had the same problem (non-stop bleeding), and it didn't go away until I got the Yasmin. In any case, bleeding for a few extra days will not hurt you, though you might want to make sure you're getting enough iron.

As for "making up" the pills, see the instruction book that comes with your Rx for the details. You'll get all the info you need from that.

I hope everything is okay now!

Thanks for the advice, amora. It did stop once I took an active pill. The nurse practitioner at my PCOS doctor's office told me NOT to double up on pills, so it all worked out. I will just make it a point not to let the prescription run out, especially on a weekend!

Just so you know ... in the future... you can often ask the pharmisist to give you a couple pills in advance until Monday. I've done this many a time since I am a last minute person myself. Usually if you go to that cvs as a regular and know you come there often they will do this for you.
