Default AF where are you?

OK I have been on met since 2/1/04 and upped to 1500 mg on 3/15/04. I am still waiting on AF! How long did it take you thin cysters to start having AF? I was low carbing then the up in Met made that impossible. I had headaches and was very nautious so I added whole grain bread, cereal, and vegetables to my diet. This helped but I am wondering what to do next. I guess I just need someone to say "hey I was just like you but after 6 months of Met I started to get AF on my own." I am currently on day 51 of this cycle and the last one was induced by provera. Any suggestions?

Thanks
Amy

Amy - Don't worry. It took about five months of being on Metformin before I got AF. Just give it some time - it will come! As far as low carbing, I try to follow the Zone diet and eat a balance of good carbs with protein. This seems to help keep my blood sugar stable. Since I started this diet after getting AF, I don't think it had anything to do with bringing it on.

Hi Amy,

I've had good results at 2,000mg of met. Before that dosage, my cycles were long and erratic (37-76 days); since increasing it (I was on 500mgs for a few months), my cycles have been 25-27 days.

I just saw my endo today, and she said that in her experience, women seem to see the best results at 2,000mgs. It seems like 1,500 is a common dosage; but a bit more may make a huge difference.

I've been fortunate to not have the awful met side effects; in part, b/c I've always been on the extended relesase version of the drugs (Metformin ER and Glucophage XR). In part, I think I've just been lucky. My endo told me that even with the extended release meds, a lot of women have troubles getting up to higher doses, and miss out on the benefits.

Hope AF shows soon for you. I know just how frustrating those long cycles are.

GL!
Lissa
