Default Afro-American women with dark spots on body

Well actually ANY women could put input!!

I have darker spots on my body that I hate and feel insecure about!!

Right under my bum (lol) its darker than the rest of my body..along with my knee's! They both look like they've gone through war!!

I'm wondering if there is any products you ladies have used that helped fade the colour?

I've heard eating healthier may help but I dont see any difference as I've been eating pretty healthy lately!

Exfoliating/Microdermabrasion I've heard have helped lighten up darkspots. I have so many things from Black Soap to lemon juice...lol. I'm currently using Mederma to help with my acne scars. It's working for me but I know as in anything it's going to take some time.

Tri-Luma is an Rx creme that lightens spots VERY quickly (depending on the nature of the spots.)

I would assume because Tri-luma is a prescription..it would do it a lot quicker than Ambi and those types of bleaching creams?

It's pretty fast. I had some dark spots from plucking (that were really old), and tri-luma made them completely disappear in less than 2 weeks.

Hi Kat,

I'm an AA Woman too and I have some "deep rooted" scars from plucking...can Tri-Luma "really" fade them?

Years ago you recommended the Melanex/Retin-A combo and I got my doctor to prescribe it and worked okay, except the Retin-A made my skin peel, so I discontinued using it, but I've been using Melanex for years with so-so results.

I'm desperate to try anything that "really works". I've been lurking on the boards and saw your testimony in the other forum, so now that I'm seeing again, I really may have to try Tri-Luma for myself.

I made an appointment with an AA dermatologist for this week and I'm definately going to ask for it. I also have a microdermabrasion appt for Saturday..can you use Tri-Luma and still get facials and microdermabrasion?

I wasn't sure if spa treatments would intefere with it's effectiveness.

I've had these dark spots from plucking since high school and haven't work an v-neck shirt since because it's so bad. If you say Tri-Luma works, then I'm all for it.

I'll post my before and after results if anyone's interested.

I had recently asked my derm for Melanex and Retin-A micro, and she said that Tri-Luma was better (and she was right).

Tri-Luma has Retin-a in it, so you'll experience some mild peeling, but it only lasted a few days for me, and I was fine. The derm said if it bothered me to switch to every other day...

It was expensive (and not covered by insurance), but VERY worth it.

Thanks for the fast response!

I'm really nervous to try it, but yet I'm excited to see if it's the "real deal".

I've tried so many products to fade these plucking scars, that I'm just waiting for the day where I can say something actually worked!

I'll let you know how things go. I'll post a before and after pictures to show the results.

Wish me luck!

Also, I heard it was about 100 bux a tube, that's not really expensive compared to laser hair removal...geesh..I'm sure I've spent over 1000 bux to get rid of hair that won't leave because my hormones are not under control

yes, that's correct. It's a big tube, however. Much bigger than Retin-a micro.

Is it more than 100 bux a tube? If it will fade these scars, then I'm willing to make the investment.

These scars have really put a hit on my self esteem for 14 years and I'm ready to feel "feminine" again..

It's embarassing to walk around and have people look at you funny because of the "hair" and the "scars"...I used to play it off and say it was from the chickenpox, but unforunately they are in the same places that men have hair (chest, chin, neck), so that story didn't fly for long.

These scars have cut into my dating life because I don't want a guy to see the scars and think "yuck", nor do I go to formal events because most of the dresses are cut to expose the chest area.

I can only get by in a turtleneck for one season of the year, the rest of the time, I'm slathering on makeup and concealers and they rub off on my clothes and the scars still show.

So if Tri-Luma will be the end-all of these scars, I'll buy 2 tubes just to see get rid of these problems it's causes with my self esteem.

Kat, are you wearing sunscreen when you use it?

My makeup has sunscreen (and I only needed it on two very small areas). The peeling was kind of bad around days 4-6, but after that my skin got used to it.

The tube was more than $100...maybe $120-ish. It should last you awhile. It's MUCH larger than a retin-a tube, and you only need a teensy amount. IMO, it worked much faster and more completely than melanex.

Kat,

What brand of makeup do you use that has sunscreen in it?

I didn't know they made that kind.
